Avon Storm ST

I would like to get an update on these tires' performance. By those who have used them recently.

Like a rain tire for the street. Would be good in Seattle!

Doesnt provide the most amount of traction, but it does pretty well. Handles VERY well in the rain and wears better then any other tire out there.

I have enough weigh though that tire sticks pretty well, but you smaller riders might have issue with wheel spin under WOT.

They are better then the stock tires in EVERY way.

Best tires so far

Front tire: has over 6,000 miles on and barely warn, will see over 10,000. No cuping, stick like glue and no head shake or vibration

rear tire: on the 2nd one, 1st one got 3500, could have done 4,000. But that includes about 30 runs down the 1/4 mile.

Its no secret the harder the tire the more mileage and least cost to run, the softer the tire more sticky and get your check book out.

Thanks fellas. Running Pilot Roads right now. I've got about 9,000 miles on those tires and they've held pretty well. Especially since I use my bike for work purposes.

That includes a few 170mph+ runs. And quite a few rough and sometimes gravel back roads..

They seem to handle pretty well in the rain. Of course it helped alot that I wasn't acting an ass IN the rain.

The only issue was the squaring off like you see in most tires, so reading about the footprint technology of the Avons kind of caught my attention. But I wanted to hear from someone who had experience from them.

I'm a big boy KC JR 54, So traction probably won't be an issue.

I might make that switch.

If your getting 9,000 miles from the Roads, I would keep what I have

Not quite, but nice try.

I ride hard and fast every chance i get. I extended the bike to keep the front end down just for my daily riding.

I wont get 9k out of the Avon though. I expect 4500, but that is an improvement on anything else out there with me riding.

Okay, I'm in need of new skins so I wanted to chime in. Disclaimer: I live in Illinois so there are no curves here. My bike has been to Deal's Gap twice, but since I live in Illinois and don't know how to turn, I pretty much corner like a pussy. For example, one-up, I won't have a chicken strip on the rear. Two-up, the edge of the tire is fragging. No sliding or any BS like that and I still have 1/2" on my front tire edges that's probably still never touched pavement. I'm still on my OEM front at about 6000 miles and it would probably be okay for ANOTHER rear. The wear bars are showing on the 2nd OEM-spec rear. A two-up 1000-mile weekend did it in (about 3000 miles total).

I'm looking for recommendations. My buddies on "lesser" bikes are having good luck with the "new gen" sport touring tires. They seem like they might fit my riding style.

BTW, just because a tire is "hard" doesn't mean it'll last on a bike like the 14. It'll spin and wear out very quickly, and the rider might not even notice, much. I remember reading about a guy that put a Metz ME880 Marathon on a ZX-12R for the Iron Butt and his tire was gone in 1000 miles.

How the hell do you ride hard with a extended swingarm...You mean you ride hard in a straight line....

Why not run the Avon Viper Sport AV60 on the rear. Maybe the best of both worlds with great performance and good durability.
