08 Busa Update
Yesterday evening we went out so my friend could get a idea on how his 08 Busa performs. With my street meg and no flies zx14 at a 2nd gear rollon with the bone stock 08 Busa. Well we are dead even from 2nd thru 4th but he inches ahead in 5th.. At the top of 5th I pull back even each time we raced.. We had expected my bike to have a advantage with the smeg. I do weigh 25 lbs more and had a full tank compared to his half tank but I still didn't expect the race to be so close. Especially with the difference in 5th. The plugs were recently changed 2 weeks ago.
We all know a 06 zx14 with a street meg should be more then the stock Busa's 178hp. The key in 5th was aerodynamics. We were going to switch bikes but ran out of daylight.
I can say this was so close no definite winner was apparent. To keep the race fair I did not use 6th gear due to the speedo healer bypassing the governor.
Weather permitting this weekend we'll retest.

hp for hp you guys were probaly the same....the 25 pounds you took off the bike with the exhaust you gained back by being heavier than him....so yea it seems like a pretty even race to me...even if you was the same weight i bet it would only have been maybe a bike length differance. Thats what i think is so funny about the 14/busa wars, guys are literally argueing about inchs..now all the busa guys know what it's like to jump on a 06/07 14 with exhaust..now they know what we been talking about.

i am telling you guys, these bikes are so close in performance all it needs a little error from rider or weight difference or full gas tank vs. low or little modification.you will never know which one is faster..... just my 2 cents.

2nd gear roll on races mean absolutely nothing in terms of comparing perfomance, way too many variables. Take the bikes to the drag strip and let a good rider ride both bikes multiple times, the timeslips won't lie.

Who cares what the new busa does to a '06-'07 ZX-14? Get ahold of a '08 ZX-14 and "THEN" do a comparison. Why ppl wanna compare a new bike to a older is beyond me.
I also agree that YES a 2nd gear roll is good enuff to compare bikes.

Lol actually a roll on is a very very good indicator. It doesn't take that much skill to roll the gas on and go thru the gears. The bike with the better to power/weight ratio will usually pull ahead. Too many variables from a dead stop drag race...

Because in all fairness that is exactly what people have been doing anyway, comparing the 06 ZX14 with the 1999 technology Busa.

Well, if we follow that distorted logic, "in all fairness" no one should be comparing the 08 Busa with 06 technology ZX-14 (including the 08 ZX-14).

Close?? The 14 had a SMEG? Isn't that upwards of 190 rwhp? Or were the dyno sheets bogus?

I call BS, in 06-07 they were comparing to the 06-07 busa.
Its no ones fault the 06-07 busa was also the 02 busa, the 99 busa, the 04 busam the 00 busa, the 05 busa, the 01 busa

I ran away from a 08' with dealer tags with stock gearing. The guy just shook his head. Enjoy your reduced top end speed and higher rpm's per mile! Fuck that noise. I can put a sprocket the size of a industrial logging saw blade on a EX-500 and whoop up on your ass up to 50 mph, after that, the end.

Everybody sets their bike up the way they want them. Sounds like dbeadling is a dragracer more than a top speed guy....we all have different taste.
The new busa is nasty and a good comparison to the 08 14. I would say it would take a exhaust on a 06/07 to hang with a 08 busa but like a good rider knows...99% of the time it all comes down to the rider! Why is that so hard to understand? I think i will keep my 06 for now and throw a shot on it for next year. New busa, old busa, 06 14, 08 14...you guys have fun arguing over 1 or 2hp i'll be at the track........

My only intention was to give a unbiased report on how the bike performed. Magazines can only tell so much - while there was an opportunity we went out to have some fun and get our own results. I didn't want to start a pissing match b/c no one is getting paid.
Besides the tail section I have nothing negative to say regarding the Busa. There are some features on the 14 that I like better in terms of the gauges. It all comes down to getting what you like.

All bikes are not the same, every 14 with a SMEG doesn't make 190 rwhp, I still have the Gen 3 Ti oval can on mine (SAE 185 rwhp) and made 6 rwhp more than one with a SMEG (SAE 179 RWHP) on it on the same dyno after tuning.
