Yeah okay, after reading all 17 pages over on the other forum I have to agree that this is a real issue and requires at the very least a solid explanation from KHI. As bad as the PR would be they should probably issue a recall to gusset/web that area on all existing bikes. The two bikes experienced *identical* failures and this sets off all the alarms.

That said, as was mentioned in the other thread there are plenty of bikes out there with stretched rear ends and gobs of aftermarket horsepower, along with some 'heavy duty' riders. If there was an 'across the board' problem it would have been exposed by now so in all likelihood there IS an explanation for these two bikes. It may be a change in the process, a different supplier of raw materiels, etc, etc.

Things like this make me want to go for an '08 rather than pick up a good deal on an '06/07, never mind the horsepower it is the quiet little changes that they don't want to admit to that I would be happy with.

Yup...There's a large majority of ZX14 owners that don't post on the internet...The frame change for 08' is interesting.

Guys let me ask you this >>> Do you think this is some kind of hoax , someone trying to pull one over on us ? Or pull one over the Insurance Company ? I have seen the pictures of the bikes as you guys have and i don't see any damage to the bikes other than the broken frame...This looks real to me but most Hoaxs or scams are very real looking and that is how the scam is pulled off by having very good stories and details ..

Did these guys wreck their bike and remove the bad parts and install new parts to cover up the damage to get the Insuance company or Kawi to pay ? Or is this just a scam to discredit Kawi and cause Kawi harm in sales...?? Or just give us zx14 owners a black eye?

I don't know the answers to these questions and i wish i did !! For now i have little choice but to keep an eye on my frame for any damage and keep riding ...Smokin ...

Lee I agree it could be a real break.

It just seems the fail rate on our frames is slim to nil.

And for the ones that are breaking, I just can't see it being due to someone riding down the road gazing at birds. We've seen how bad these bikes have been wheelied, tortured, and mine has landed on the rear a few times after "not knowing those RR tracks were there" and such experiences at speed.

Now that I typed I'm totally confident with the frame on mine, it might break on tonight's ride-

Lee, i was thinking the very same thing, have you noticed that both bikes were practicly stock? How many 14 s with that many miles dont even have a aftermarket exshaust !! They both had other mods but no ex? Iam not saying its not possable an i could be way off base here or they might have put them back stk for insurance/ warranty reasons! There is so much fraud anymore that its absurd we have to be so suspect about anything, but lee makes a very good point ,something just dont smell wright... As for the guys thats had this happen to them atleast no one was hurt good. But for the ones who are scams ? well i would not want to be in your shoes one day...Bill...

Bill i see the same thing ...Stock pipes on both bikes but one has a P/C ?? it may mean nothing but it could mean something .. I wish i had the answers but i don't think we ever will know the hole story..
Now if it happened to one of our long time members, someone we know and trust like Steve we could have real some proof .... Till then i have to say the Jury is still out....Smokin..

we never heard the outcome on the other "failure" and that was quite awhile ago. something should have been resolved and reported by now as they sure didn't waste any time telling everyone it broke to begin with. i usually don't call b.s. with such little info but in this case BULLSHIT! that frame didn't just break, somebody did something to cause it.

We also don't know how this bike was ridden for a fact-- maybe a few previous wheelies with some hard/bad landings or some serious bottoming out on bumps a while back? Do we really have all the facts here?

if you remember the first reported failure was a broken frame neck. a blind man could have seen that was collision damage but the guy claimed a small wheelie took it out

I remember seeing a lot of scrapes & scratches to the belly pan on the black 14 that had a broken frame... but it was stock height - atleast it was in the pics that were taken & posted. I know that the frame failure could be a "real" problem but I'm sorry... I'm just not buying it.

I guess I won't take up anymore time on this. As I stated before I was riding my 14 VIN #07094 and John was on his 14. I rounded a corner on one of our back roads, and hit a pot hole (nothing major) but when he hit it the frame broke, we were going between 40 -45 mph. This bike has never been abuses, crashed or mistreated in any way. I have know this bike from the day it left the showroom in Roseburg, OR. I only hope that these two are the only ones it happens to but I think we might see more.
I have crashed on later model race bikes well into triple digits and have never had a frame brake, dented yes, bent yes, but never a break.
But whatI do need is an e-mail address for KHI that is going to get to someone other then a flunky...
