ZX14 at the crank
Stop by the store last night to get some gas, one of the head salesman at our local stealaship came up to me talking about the 08 zx14. He said Kawasaki sent him a letter yesterday saying the 08 will be 203hp or 205hp at the crank. Is that some good news or what !!

The specs on the European Kawi site translated to 200.2 HP, but that's with ram air I think...

sounds like the 08 zx 1400 went the the brock school of fast ....and kicked the busa on the play ground. stock vs stock. the 08 busa and a pipe only at 193 h/p is another matter.sounds like the suzuki likes the mods better or will the 08zx 1400 be the big monkey with the go fast stuff. or will the v max drop out of the blue with 220 h/p with the knock out punch.

had a 1985 v max and when it came out it had 30 h/p over anything else and was a blast to drive.open it up in first at 40 mph and the front wheel would jump 3 feet into the sky. too bad it did not go around bends in the road. a lot of riders found that out the hard way

Kawi had better done some good work on the head to compete in '08.
Heck, the old busa head outflowed the zx14 head.....

Horsepower at the crankshaft is a meaningless measurement. It can be any number the manufacturer chooses. Why, because the number cannot be verified by the rider.
Another meaningless number is the crankshaft horsepower with ram air induction. How is that measured?
RWHP on your local dyno is a good starting point to know what kind of power a bike produces, BUT dyno runs vary from bike to bike, dyno to dyno, and depend in part on humidity and temperature. To confuse the issue, some ask about correction factors and SAE standards.
Another meaningless measurement is the manufacturers claimed dry weight. The meaning of "dry weight" is a little elusive too. With or without battery? With fork oil? No coolant?
Anyhow, I think we can agree that when a bunch of the new bikes (Busa & ZX-14) get on local dynos, we will be able to average out the RWHP figures to see how much power the bikes are producing.
Dyno figures are very interesting, but so is a bit of controlled street racing. These bikes should be very close; the rider will make the difference most of the time.

He was almost right. It's 203 PS at the crank with Ram Air, according to Kawi.

...which I think translates to 200.2HP. No matter; the 08 ZX14 probably still has more low end TQ than the 08 Busa, so the extra HP on top that the Busa has, shouldn't make any difference. It will all be about the rider. I think that Kawi's plan since the 06, was to beat the 99-06 Busa's, wait and see what the next model has in store, then unlock a bit more power to compete, without having to reinvent the wheel all over again. Now we know the two are equally matched; no more dominance by Suz anymore...
Don't forget, the fuel injection and exhaust ports have changed as well on the 08 14 -- and that should have some effect on overall gains.

I like this comparison. Kerry Bryant from Area P's results with just slipons. 1st Gen ZX-14 competes very favorably. 14 hits 150hp @ 7600 rpm, whereas the Busa hits it @ 8100 rpm. Torque is stronger on the 14 as well. Based on these graphs, I don't doubt this 14 would beat that Busa in the 1/4.
