Helmet Light

Does anybody know if they make a helmet light for road use or if it is even legal in the state of virginia?

The issue is, I live in a very rural area and more often I don't get home till late at night. I'm cool on the highway, but more than likely, I would have up to an hours worth of rough and sometimes twisty back roads to travel. Most of them are unmarked.

I've been suprised too many times coming in and out of curves at night and now I'm looking forward to purchasing something that would help me see farther than where the bike is pointed.

Any suggestions would help.

Would be nice to find something that I could easily switch on and off remotely.

Any suggestions?

definetly not legal in va., i'm a state insp. and very familiar with what is permisable lighting which in this state is not a whole hell of a lot. you will need to look into driving/fog lamps wired via relay to the dimmer switch so that they turn off when high beams are on. the real trick will be finding something dot approved that doesn't look like total ass on a 14. i ride on rural roads at night often also and the lows do leave a lot to be desired but the high beams are the best i've ever had on a bike by a long shot

Your best bet would be front fork mounted auxiliary driving beam lights.

Get one of these or it's equivalent:

http://www.amazon.com/Compact-Super-Bright-LUXEON-LED-Flashlight/dp/B000HAZEMW/ref=pd_sim_hi_5/102-3978668-4956160?ie=UTF8&qid=1191706254&sr=8-4

Attach it to the side of your helmet (right around jaw line). Hop on your bike and adjust it accordingly.

Grab some rechargeable batteries

Just leave it on when you ride. When encountering traffic, just tilt your helmet down slightly to avoid blinding oncoming traffic.

Quick and dirty, and you won't look like a miner.
