My day/night at the track, part 8??
Ok, if your in a hurry, and want the results, just scroll down.
Now a little history. I remember when I first started drag racing bikes, my first trip donw the track was an 11 something, and it happened so fast I don't remember shifting. After awhile, 11 seconds seemed slow. I remember I had time to stare at the tach, look in mirrors for my opponent, and basically sight see down the track. Then came the 10's, same thing, happened so fast I don't remember shifting.
Well now im in the 8's, and since I haven't ridden the bike in 4 months, I'm back to the "happened so fast" I don't remember shifting. I do remember looking at the boost gauge on all my passes, and I'm quite impressed with the external waste gate. It held exactly 10psi all the way down the track. My old internal waste gate would hold around 7 or 8psi, but would creep up to 14psi whe I got to around 11,000 rpm. Not this new waste gate....it never moved off 10, which is where I set it.
Now the track. It was pretty sticky, but little gummy balls where coming off the track because it was, after all, test n tune for everybody, including street tire cars, which tend to tear the rubber off the track.
The first pass, I had decided I was just gonna ride it down the track to break in the motor. I also wanted to make sure I had plenty of room in the shutdown area.
1# R/T: .070
60' 1.859
330' 4.431
1/8 6.334 @ 131.31mph
1000' 7.986
1/4 9.602 @ 128.73
The bike ran flawlessly, and it appeared that I had plenty of stopping distance. So the next pass I was gonna go balls out. The bike hooked up good. I had thought it might spin. I was having problems with the clutch engaging late in the lever throw. Before the rebuild, it would engage early in the throw, so consequently I was slipping the clutch way more than I needed too. But my 60's will improve with practice.
#2 R/T .143(zzzzzzz)
60' 1.702
330' 4.185
1/8 6.072 @ 133.33
1000' 7.646
1/4 8.994 @163.84
#3 R/T .069(yeehaw)
60' 1.717
330' 4.174
1/8 6.027 @ 133.82
1000' 7.616
1/4 8.962 @ 165.31
Track surface temp was 104 deg. Air temp was between 89 and 83 deg, and humidity was a steady 53%.
I had wanted to make more runs, and it was still early, when a car blew a radiator hose in the best lane, and he decided to run the car the whole lengh of the track, effectively ruining the right lane for the night. With over 150 cars in the lanes, there was no way I was going to make another pass, so I packed it up til the next time.
The bike handled and ran flawlessly, with one exception; It lifted the carried the front tire in 3rd, 4th, and 5th. Its never done that before, that I remembered. Each time it came down, it wiggled a bit, but I have a steering dampner so it wasn't a problem. It is a bit uncomfortable to have the front end start coming up at 130mph, not knowing where its going to stop, so on each of those runs, I went "soft" with the throttle. That is I just reduced the throttle a tiny bit so the front end wouldn't come up any highter.
I'm going to change the front sprocket to an 18 tooth(gearing now is 17/43), and go back to the 41 tooth rear. That should put me close to 64", the maximum lengh for ultra-street. Last night the bike was at 66".
My goal here is to see just how quick I can run the bike at 10psi. I see no reason to crank up the boost until I get a boost controller. The bike is a lot of fun to ride right now, and I feel at that boost pressure its safe on the motor, and it will last a long time.

I did a ton of motor work too mine. If you plan on drag racing a turbo ZX14 you can pay now, or pay later....but your gonna pay. Plan on about $7000 worth of engine work, if you truly want reliability.
Thanks smokin.....I'll get there eventualy, just takes time....I only have 3 passes on the bike since I got it back. And before that, with the turbo, probably 20 passes, at the most.

Might have to do that.....they have a race on a Wednesday, I think second one in October, might try it there. KCIR is not that bad....I was getting pretty good traction, and was able to stop easily on the track, plus its only an hour away, vs. 2 1/2 for HPT..
