Top Speed with stock gearing

With stock gearing is it possible to hit 186mph in 5th ?

Without the speedohealer seems like the bike just sits there when I go to 6th.

Took out the 06 Gixxer 1k that had a 80 lb lighter rider. He flat out gave up when the 14 kept on pulling. Resistance was futile. Neck and neck at the start of the rollons. Top of 4th 14 starts to pull.

Called out by a K7 with a M4 slipon. Rider is 70 lbs lighter though.

Results will be posted tonight.

Actual rearwheel speed at top of 5th gear is 183mph,
but hat doesn't take into account for slippage, or that the speedo reads high!

So yes it does top out the limiter in the top of 5th gear, you sir need a speedo-healer!

BobC- What was your gearing again, when you ran the 205mph pass?

I was geared 18/41 for the 205.4mph pass, overgeared for the amount of available power but lucky to get a decent tail wind that day. Next meeting I was geared 17/40 and made 203.1mph in normal conditions.

At the last meeting, which I missed, the organisers set the track up drag-race style using the normal light system. People went off in pairs and they measured the 60 foot time, quarter mile time, flying kilo and top speed. Then they calculated the winning bike in each class using a formula. So for the next meeting I will have to get the gearing right to give a good launch and top speed, maybe even drop back to 17/41 as this still gives over 200mph at the engine red line.

If I remember right it is about 1.25mi. with another .9 of shutdown
either way the bike still has to pull the gearing.

Correct, 1.25 miles and the secret is not what speed your bike would do at peak rpm but at peak power. So if you make peak power at 10,000rpm and you can get the gearing right you will achieve your maximum potential speed. Putting it the other way round, you need to know what the theoretical top speed is for a given number of bhp (assuming the drag coefficient is a constant for your bike and normal weather conditions ) and gear it for that.

At least, that's my approach and it's worked so far.
