Kaw Packin Heat in 08

I was on another (private) forum and a very reputable source stated that Kawasaki is not leaving the 14 as is for 08. They let Suzuki come out with their smallbore, and then they unleash the who's your daddy 14. look out, it is going to be a great year to haul ass. when kaw and suzuki go at it everyone wins.

for some reason I will be surprised if kawasaki changes much if anything at all. It just don''t sell well enough to keep spending big money to update it when we don't know if the Busa will be faster or better.

they don't have to do much, remember the huge differences we see with relatively cheap bolt on mods. we are talking stock vs stock. hell they coud drill holes in the butterflies or have an adjustable fly switch and the thing would dominate. the 14 has lots of untapped potential.

Well I don't know about dominate as we don't know how the Busa will be when it gets here. Stock for stock I will be surprised if the new Busa don't kill a 14 that still has the flies in place. But it will definately be interesting to see which on is faster Mod for Mod and i will post my experience with that as soon as mine gets here. I will set it up just like my 14 was, Brock Smeg and lowerd and see if it runs like my 14 did. I might be sorry i jumped ship will have to wait and see. LOL

the beauty is just a few bolt ons and this thing is a beast. smokin adds a swingarm and bingo well into the eights. there is plenty of motor to take care of bidness.

Young Machine magazine ( Jap rag) reported the zx14 is unchanged as far as looks but is packing more HP for 2008 ...These things leak out the closer we get to the dealer show....Young magazine was dead on the new Busa ....Sooo lets hope they are right on the zx14 .....

Boy I hope so! I hope if there are any changes, that it will be available for the 06-07 models, like biggers Throttle bodies, twin cooling fans, and maybe fully adjustable secondaries! Cause i like this bike so much that i dont want to try to get another one. I just cant afford it, and i dont have the room.

Removing the butterflies doesn't really do much for peak power. If they are going to want to get the best of the Busa its going to need more PEAK POWER, simply removing the flies wont do that.

Tonytooth and I were talking the other day and we both said the same thing about the zx14s we own now ....There is nothing out there that comes close to the zx14 and if there was we would buy it .....But there is nothing out there that rides as good or has the power it has , so we both felt no reason to get rid of our zx14s ... We both felt that we would be keeping our zx14s for sometime to come ......But with news of a faster more powerfull zx14 possible coming in 08 we may have to rethink that a bit ... If they just added power and made no changes to the frame and body we could swap out our hot rod goodies to the new zx14 ....Man O man that sounds like a deal to me !!!!!!! Good part is we will not have to wait long to find out what Kawi has done because the dealer show is just around the corner ..

If this is true it puts the Busa behind the 8 ball for at least 2 more years before they change or up grade the new Busa !!!!..Smokin....

The 14 body and "frame" are up to date... and shoud only need slight mods by Kawi... so the only thing that they really would need to spend the money on changing is in the motor... They can pretty much keep everything else as is... brakes, lights, gauges, levers etc... just new paint schemes... and motor work. Suzuki had to update a lot.. and still doesn't seem to have prepared for the future like Kawi did. So now Kawi can one up them every year for minimal money until Suzuki re-designs the Busa.... Who knows... maybe they have been working on a 'monster' 14 that cuts it loose. I doubt it though... because the new laws are going to be here soon.. and per the cycle mags... the only bike that is ready to pass is the Harley. That being the case, they have to get that taken care of also. I would like to see Honda spend some money and get in the mix again... regardless... I am very happy with the all around ability of the 14... and agreeing with Smokin... even if something is faster... that will not be enough for me to dump the 14... (Unless it is a green- faster 14 ha ha)

That's funny, everything I've read indicates HD is in bad shape regarding emissions compliance, and they've been lobbying fiercely against stricter emission laws for bikes. It seems California is swinging the hammer really hard in 2008. Buell's motivation for Rotax engines wasn't just power and reliability, it was turnkey emissions compliance.

I wasn't giving the final authority on it... and I am certainly not well versed in the EPA regulations.... I believe that I may have mis-spoken... I had just quickly noted on several occasions that HD was poised to meet the standards... the only magazine I have at home to look at is Cycle World... (August 2007 page 35) that states, "HD managed to make all of its Twin Cam 96 engines 2008 compliant in 2007". I am not sure how many bikes this covers that they make... but I see that this is just for the 2008 requirements and does not cover the 2010's. I also realize that it only covers the Twin Cam 96 motors. I also believe that I had read in 'Motorcyclist' (not sure) that HD 'must have been working on this for awhile as they believe that all of their bikes will be ready for the new standards'. (Not a direct quote... but what I took from the article). As I look back though... they may have been just talking of the 2008 standards. I probably should not have thrown that part of the sentence in there. I am glad that you pointed that out to me.
Another interesting point in the article says that the "repli racer sportbikes sold in the Governator's state next year could suffer up to a 15% drop in peak power...". We may wind up with restricted, restricted (x2) bikes after 2010?? Anyway.. not to thread jack... take care Ojref... and remember, keep the air clean, and the mechanics busy... ride a Harley. (Just kidding- I live in Milwaukee area)

Only too those that look at bore and stroke....peel the onion and look again. Will it leap frog the 14? NO, but it will surpass it than Kawi will come back and answer with Yamaha throwing both a bone with a radical V-Max in '09 LOl!

I wouldnt count out the Zuk, I think they just did the minimum to keep up this round, but they still have that 6 cylinder in developement. No matter what happens I will stick with the 14, It is paid for and plenty fast with the best ergos. Even if the spirit is young, the 68 yr old bod has to be accomidated.....TB

That is great at 68 and still riding a sportsbike way to go!

I never count anyone, always will be someone faster bike type or rider all about what you enjoy and get pleasure from.

FWIW my nearing 7 year old 1k+ still gives me joy . I just dropped another 10k in it no regrets at all.

The old setup was close too what a Smegs, fly's removed, mapped 14 makes with 280 less cc's. The new setup? stay tuned ...but whatever it makes will always be someone faster on a smaller bike or stock one.

Does it bother me? nope, nobody but me will be get the thrill when I twist that right grip that is priceless we all share in our respective rides stock or modified

Rick
