A story that bugs me
Hi All... Figured i havent written anything useless in like a week...so here goes... riding the 14 today.... out my driveway down the street...going like 20mph... face shield up ( when going slow & its hot ill ride with it up)..wham...bug hits me in the cheek....shoots down my helmet at like 120 .... into the small opening ( 3 inches from the top) of my partially unzipped jacket.... i quickly look down...wondering if its a bee ( been there done that a few times...ouch)..look back up... wham again...direct shot my right eye.. another bug,,, both happened within 3 seconds of each other..and im thinking i thought i got rid of those pesky flies! Im sure youve all got Bug Stories....wanna share a few?

I've had a yellowjacket get stuck between my neck pad of helmet and my neck at 90mph. Slammed on the brakes and got stung before I could get my helmet off. Sucked.

had that happen with a wasp in my neck and the stinger went WAY in because of speed

I was leading a Kawasaki demo ride two weeks ago in Sturgis and had three wasp hit me in my neck and went down my shirt. Got stung three times before I could pull over safely......the folks behind me couldn't figure out what I was doing.

Heading to Waco TX one day i ate a bee ...On the way home i took a bird to the chest ....Wasn't my best day....

No matter how old I get....them damn stingers STILL pack a little punch that makes you go "OUCH! Mother....!!" 
Sometimes they even have a little BURN to them.

Last year i was riding along bout 80-85 when a junebug hit me in the chest so hard i thought my brother had punked me then i realized i was still on the bike.

1980... How many of you remember the "classic" helmet.... It was open faced... and pushed hard back on your head as it filled with the air as you rode.... (Thank Goodness for full faced helmets!!!!) I was on my way to catch the bus for the football game at school... a little 4 mile ride. On the back road, I saw IT about 100 yards away... just floating in the air.... as I gained ground I noticed that it seemed to be hovering right in that area that you know is just in the middle. You just can't move, can't figure out which way to go... just paralizing. As IT gets closer I realize that it seems to be getting the bead. It seems as though it is slow motion. Then with a quick move of the helmet at the last moment, I make my move... but he must have seen my eyes because he darted right at the temple.... just above the glasses... and shot right into the space on the side of the helmet. Never really hit anything but the foam landing padding... I remember thinking... "that wasn't bad"... I expected that hard hitting bug pain... and then the guts all over the face.. instead... Nothing!!! It was at this point that he started stinging anything that was skin!!! I was hitting my helmet on the side... I was hitting the back brake hard with no hands on the bars.... as I was trying to get the helmet off. I was still going 45 or so when I got the helmet off. It fell from my hands... I could feel the thing walking in my jacket now... Stupid thing crawled down my neck, (while stinging) and got into my cheap letter jacket.... I got that 73 Honda from 45 to 0 in a flash... (who needs anti lock brakes... right SteveFL??!! ) anyway, I couldn't even put my football helmet on because my face and neck were so puffed up. To top it off.. I never was able to find the helmet. ($5.00 down the road).... literally. ha ha What kind of bee... I have no idea.. but I am sure that he stung me 10 times. That is the honest truth... Man, those helmets were USELESS!!! Anyway... that is my bug story... The funny thing is... I remember it like it was yesterday... but I have no idea about the football game, or the girl I was dating etc....

I was riding a friend of mines Dirt bike about a month or two ago and ran over a HORNETS nest at like 5 miles an hour was wearing shorts and no jacket just his helmet (riding around in the big field behind his house) I made the mistake of stopping to see what I just ran over and BAM I got swarmed I am runnin like an escaped slave screamin like a moron I must have gotten stung 20 or 30 times and for you southern guys you know Hornets aint no joke!! then the other day comin home from work had the window down in my truck smokin and rockin out to G n R when BAM it felt like I got hit with a baseball right on the neck turned out to be some sort of bettle Had a bruise for like a week

Took a bird to the top of my helmet at about 70 mph a couple years ago. Ducked just enough for a glancing blow. Looked back and just saw a poof of spinning feathers.
Dead bird. Lucky I didn't take square on the face shield..

two worst hits
#1 rode through a swarm of bees, where did they come from?only 3 stings....yikes!
#2 hit a bat in the faceshield at high speed late one night, it was like a blood bomb went off, i couldn't see anything but red, yuck. i had to go home and change.

It's the juicy, full of Goo Grasshoppers I hate. Was on hit smack in the eye once with my shield raised.
Also, Dragonflies. Their heads feel like you have been shot with a .22 when they hit.

Was out on the CR500, rained the day before so it was pretty muddy.
Goggles were covered in mud, so I pulled them down.
The Dragon flies up north here are the largest I have ever seen anywhere. Prehistoric jurasic sized m/fer 's. The heads on these sucker are sometimes the size of quarters, and the bodies as much as 4-5" long.
Doing about 70 mph doin the trail I come apon 3 of the bigest M/F'n dragon flies I have ever seen, 2 go by OK anfd the 3rd looked like it was headed for the front number plate.
Forgetting they have the uncanny ability to make hyper active direction changes, the air pressure in frt of the plate must have helped him out.
Luckily I closed my eye just before contact, didn't have any time to navigate the position of my head, barely time to blink.
That sucker ended up directly in my left eye socket. It felt like it pushed my eyeball to the back of my skull.
Within 5 minutes my eye was swollen shut, and couldn't see out of it for 2 days. Even once the swelling subsided, my vision was blurred for another 5 days
I ended up with a black eye for 2 weeks, and broken blood vessels in my eyeball.
Lucky i didn't have a permanant injury....
Its all fun till someone looses an eye.
I have had swarms of hornets nests stirred up and end up under the chest protector, and in my helmet, but this dragon fly incident definately beat those hand down.
Going blind would really suck.
Still think they are cool though, I have watched them bite the heads off hornets and eat the bodies. They eat all the mosquitoes too.. keep the bugs away. Top of the food chain for flying insects anyway.

Hit a patch of mosquitos a few years ago going to Tylertown, MS on my CBR600. There was a cow pasture nearby, guess they were feeding on the cows pretty good because they were all full of blood. Must have had over 20 hits on my visor all at once, had to pull over and wipe all the blood off so I could see.
On a side note, saw someone hit a turtle recently, I was right behind them. Looked like someone set off a M80 inside the turtle, juicy bits everywhere.

I was ripping across nova scotia after the tourist season and was pleased that there were not many bugs as I had been warned about. Im doing about 120 and hit a cloud of SOMETHING...big ass flies...Me and the bike(98 blackbird)...looked like we were covered in fur...so many wing things.....ICK!!!

had the wasp in the helmet thing, swelled up so bad IMMEDIATELY that i rode home sans helmet. cop stopped me, saw my face and let me go lol. I also took out a jackrabbit at about 90mph, nearly bounced off the bike (like hitting a speed bump), a week later same exact spot hit a cat at 120+ and barely felt it. went back and found the cat with only some skin holding both halves together, guts shot out both mouth and butt. yuck.

To date no bee's (lucky I guess), but--then there are the bird's. First strike was when I took the back roads and pinned the throttle wtfo, it was about dusk so vision wasn't the best; I noticed something moving on the ground ahead--Oops, a flock of SeaGulls (LandGulls). I tucked as tight to the bike as I could, then bam--smashed one on my left shoe (felt like a rock), needless to say it wasn't pretty, threw the shoes out (speed 150+). Second strike, coming back from a ride with friends, I noticed a bird flying about 10 ft off the ground right in my path--I decided I would try and catch it---Oops, I stood up on my pegs and reached out--mis-judged the height of it and got smacked in the helmet, lol all the way home (helmet survived, speed 40).

Now THAT would make a good youtube video. Can see itnow, guy standing on his pegs holding a birds legs in his hands while the bird mauls him with its wings then flies into his open visor pecking the living sh*t outta him. Followed by a wobbly crash and a screaming running guy in leathers being chased by some 10 ounce p*ssed off bird heh heh.
