It's not hard to change a clutch for someone who has changed a few. If it is your first attempt, you should probably have a manual available. The manual has a good section on the clutch and how to inspect it for problems, and if necessary, change it.

Hey man, I just went through this. First off as far as changing them its easy. First take the lower faring off, second drain the oil and filter, third take the cover off, fourth 5 bolts w/springs, fifth get 2 small screw drivers or something small to grab plates and discs and slide them out. Then reverse the steps. Just take your time and make sure to lay everything out so it goes back the way it came out. I got my fibers from snhizt racing, for about 113.00 shipped to me. They are OEM so there good quality.

You only change steels if there warped. Unless you slide your clutch hard off the line they are probably fine. The other thing is more than likely you can keep your bike leaned over on the kick stand and not worry about draining the oil. I've never taken oil out to mess with the clutch.

Stop and try that my friend you could be wasting money. I've had that happen on both my TL1000R and my ZX6 (1988). Both times it was because I changed to the wrong oil- one time to Mobil 1 synthetic and once to an ATV oil I believe. I changed oil back to OEM and it resumed operation properly. I put 12000 more miles and counting on my TLR since then, too. So try the obvious first, oil changes never hurt anyways! Good luck and keep the green in your pocket!

May be stating the obvious, using correct oil ? Not oil with energy conserving additives (car oil)

Mobile 1 gold cap car oil is perfectly fine for bikes and its car oil. If your clutches start slipping and it glazes the fibers, your NOT going to change oil and fix it. Change the freakin' fibers and be done with it. If I burn up a piston can I just change the brand of fuel I use ?? hehehe

07 as in 2007 year. How do you figure that synthetic will wear out clutches faster? Found this at the Amsoil website
Quote:Petroleum oils have low resistance to heat and allow varnish and glaze to form on clutch plates, which can lead to slippage and increased heat generation and potential failure of the clutch pack. Synthetic oil is going to allow your wet clutches to perform better (especially under extreme heat, RPM and load conditions) and last longer than they would with petroleum oil subjected to the same operational conditions.

also found this test: car verse motorcycle oil - mobile 1 wins (circa 1994 before synthetic motorcycle oil)
