Do this all at once, it makes it so much easier. Did mine in two or so hours.

1) Pull the Flies
2) Install PCIIIusb, buy from Jamie at www.fuelmotousa.com he will premap you PCIII and double the factory warranty. He has a huge map database and the price was 259.00 and delivery is 2-3 days.
3) Any aftermarket exhaust...I used Leo Vince Slip Ons because I like the symmetry and I got the SBK Ti set up for 380.00.

Have you exhaust chosen or on hand when you order your PCIII from Jamie and he will premap it.

Welcome ekz. i think you should take V2K_CCTX advice an have your choice of pipe ready for your purchase of your pcIIIusb. Not knowcking the slip-on but go with the full system you will enjoy the performance gains in both weight savings, cooler running temps and so on. I have a muzzy for sale but if i were you i would look heavily into the brock pipes. However if you just want some sound, to lose a little weight and some power gains for a bargain let me know

Thx much for feedback guys. ordered the brocks smeg in ceramic black, putting on galfer ss lines and a gpr stabilizer. Also a fender eliminator, rear hugger and DB windscreen. Also will remove mirrors and put on crg bar ends. Need to powdercoat a few items such as heel guards. Will remove flies as suggested. Only have 200 miles on her so far and is awesome even stock - power delivery is so smooth and as you all know over 6k you better hang on. need to get some pics posted, ed.

The pucker factor you get after 6 will be around 2 when you pull the flies and have it mapped. Dont pull the flies unless you have a map ready or plan on getting it mapped right away....It's a whole new bike with exhaust, flies and pc3.

No my friend, its your choice. I just happen to get a set dirt cheap to start with. I want to get the whole enchilada but for the price I couldn't pass it up as an interim fix. Mind you, I did these mods in the first week I had the bike. And I couldn't get wifey to approve a full exhaust system at the time. Needed that extra $1K for the 745's new tires. Probably get a full system for Christmas.

Sorry, I digressed a bit.

The slip-ons shed weight, got rid of the cat's and runs cooler, gave a better sound, and some minor performance increases for 300.00 so I can live with it now. Common sense says if you want more, go with the full system. I was just trying to help the lad realize the first three things to do are:

1) Pull the fly's
2) Install PC3usb
3) Aftermarket exhaust, preferably full sys but I went slipon's.

Sorry for any confusion here on that matter.

But, wouldn't you agree on the top three?

slip-ons are fine, you guys around here get caught up too much in the "it it looks better and costs alot more it must make alot more power". Let me make a little bet here. I'll put $10 in a donation to Bikeland if anyone can show me an article or dyno series where someone has gained more than, lets say 8 hp with slip-ons verse full system. It must be a nearly stock or stock bike to count. Looking at the stock header pipes I just can't see how you could gain much power there, unlike other bikes I've owned that had too small pipes with sharp angle bends etc. the 14 header already looks aftermarket! Though that bulge in the 1 of the 4-2-1-2 must be a cat or smog related somehow, thats about it for power potential. So please prove me wrong, I love extra power, I just hate spending $600+ for a few HP. Hell, I'll lose 20 pounds and get the same result for that price. hmmmm not a bad idea, that.

Slip on's are ok, but nothing is going to beat a full exhaust. Search around on here and you will find a million topics here about full exhaust systems and slip on's. Any exhaust is better than the factory exhaust, but adding a aftermarket.....no matter what it is...... the bike should be tuned to use the full potential of that exhaust. That's means using a PC3 and a dyno session. Most gains you will see is weight. Why spend money on a exhaust that gives you marginal gains and weighs as much as the stock exhaust? Put a full exhaust on there and drop 20 something pounds off the bike and have 15+ horses over stock. My bike picked up almost 18hp over stock with a gen3,pc and 89 pump gas and it lost like 27 pounds off the bike. Pull your header off your bike and you will see how heavy that thing is. The full gen 3 exhaust i had weighed the same as just my header. I'm not nocking slip-on's but if your going to spend the money buy a full exhaust....

I'm in full agreement about the PCIII and a dyno session, and I'll find out about the weight of the header pipe real soon (gonna wrap it with header tape to cool the engine bay). Weight does matter, I just assumed most of the weight lose was in the cans on the 14 and the ceramic brick used for the catalyctic converter. The main thing I meant to say was that for up to $1000 more to go full system it's really not cost effective if you're looking for bang for the buck. Heck I bet you can get a CNC job on your heads, along with cams, for that price and bring it up around 200 rwhp. As far as less than 10 hp gain at the very top end of the rpm band, It's kinda like those big ass wings on import cars-yeah they might actually "work" but they're really for looks. Man that's gonna come back to bite me...lol. We've all seen $2400 full systems, too. Hmm, bore kit, high comp pistons, major head work, cams, etc... 220-230 hp maybe?? granted if you are doing it for racing reasons this conversation is moot: Conversation starts and stops at the weight issue.

BTW flatoutbu, I'm a fellow big guy, too, (300 pnds) and was just wondering what all your mods were to get into the low 9's. I have never had a bike to the drags (I drag my cars, roadrace my bikes) but have seen plenty of busa's run mid 10's or worse with bigger guys on them, just wondering what I got to do to put myself in at least the high 9's when I do get there (prob next spring). As I've said, I have plenty of runs under my belt, just not on a bike. Any tips would be appreciated-pm me if you want, I almost PM'ed this to you but figured maybe someone else could benefit from your exp too.

wraith - agreed, I tend to be one of the manual break-in guys versus the hard break-in which many others subscribe to. the few times it went up to 6k you could feel the power starting to come on. looking forward to getting her broken in. ed.

So here is my concern - most full-systems have poor low-end/mid-range power. So, how has this affected the low/mid-range power after the flies have been removed?

Next question - is the bike "delimited" from it's top speed once the flies are removed???

Thanks

A full exhaust will make more power up top but you wont lose any down low. Pulling the flies does not de-limit the bikes top speed. Their just little metal plates that flap open at 5-6 grand to give the engine free flowing air. You take them out the bike doesnt feel like a turd down low anymore....the limiter is in the computer
