loosing cooling liquid

Was riding this morning, not real hard, about 130 mph, for ten minutes and was stopping for fuel.after i payed I saw the engine was leaking coolant... also the coolant expansie tank was complete full....
So I started the motor and drove it for ten more minutes with 85 mph but the engine would not cool of as usual.....

Does this means I have a blown head gasket????????

i would look for something a little less catastrophic like a loose hose, if you have a leak you are losing pressurization which would lead to your cooling problem. a thorough inspection should lead to your answer.

well I'm building up pressure, because the expansion tank was complete full.....
now the engine is cooled down, the level is on the upper mark...

Check your oil for coolant. That will tell you if you have a major problem.

The MPH doesn't matter much...maybe the RPMs do but anyway I suspect its something simple. Many bikes have been tortured worse than yours and if you read through all these upteen million posts its rare to find a 14 with a problem (other than frames snapping for NO apparent reason!)

well, did start my engine, and no white smoke from the exhaust, and no white oil in crank case, so hoping for the best. because my engine has a milled head, i'm a little cautious...

"my engine has a milled head"

higher compression would possibly run warmer

Milled head definately will run hotter.

Milled head....= My other bikes used to almost overheat and would puke out...

Do you think you might have had an air lock after the head work? The engine must have been drained and re-filled. If you don't find any obvious fault some Red Line Water Wetter might help it run cooler.

No, dont think it was a air lock.. drove 1500 km with it after the head work. and it ran always cool, ( two dots on the temp meter..) the big thing is that the expansie tank was complete filled, and thats wats leaking I think. gonna presurise it tonight..

Mine went 4000 miles then it did that. I did 10 miles into town with a passenger. stopped at my shop. Came out to a puddle on the ground out of the overflow tube. Couldn't figure it out. About 2000 miles later 150 miles into a trip I stopped for gas and it did it again at the pump. Gauge never even showed top bar. We pulled it apart and pressure tested system. All good. We couldn't check the cap because we didn't have the correct adapter, and we haven't torn it down again since we got the adapter. We did find a residue in the system however. It was a build up of grey material that resembled a lime scale. The only explanation we could come up with was from the castings not being flushed properly. One guy I know said he had seen the same stuff in automotive engines and that was what it was from. I did another 500 miles this weekend with no problems.

Then, if it's not an air lock or the head gasket, it sounds like heat soak. This can happen if the cooling system is only just coping and the engine is stopped, the latent heat in the block then raises the coolant temperature until it boils. The 1400 fan does not run once the ignition is off, which it does on some other motorcycles and cars, even though the water pump is not running that does reduce the chances of a boil up.

A manual switch for the engine fan might be the answer.

I think your right this one Bob,I was running pretty fast for 10 minutes, about 220kmh, and stopped for gas, and turned of the motor. After I filled it up, and turned on the ignition, the temp bars were up till almost top bar...

Now the level is back between low and full with cold engine, and when I start the engine the level is not rising, so thats a good thing. if the gasket was gonne, it would rise right away I think. also the oilis clean..

had the same prob while commuting to work in warm weather. If the heat built up to 3 bars and I didnt get a chance to roll at 40mph or more mine would puke when I got to work. My answer was to use the kill switch to stop the engine and let the fan run. I'd watch the temp gauge(with the fan running) As soon as it hit 4 bars I'd fire it up and run the cooled coolant through the motor and the bars would drop. Usually doing this drill twice would cool the motor enough.
Never have had this problem during HOT track days. Guess that constant 100+ mph wind thru the radiator during the cool down lap does the trick,
If I lived in a warmer place I'd go with at least a switch for the fan. Probably add another fan too, but western Washington aint SoCal, its pretty cool most days.

I can agree with Bob, but those other 2 scenarios don't fit mine. I was running freeway speeds(legal) and only got off to the gas station or my shop.
