2-Step, Launch Master, Kawasaki ZX-14 - MSD

Hey gus i have been reading this product desrciption over rnad over and there is something i am not getting. Does this box act somewhat like the old stutter boxes on older bikes in which this box will electronically limit the bike to a certain rpm until the clutch is disengaged on take off. In essence i can peg the throttle in the lights and the bike will only rev to a certain rpm pre set by me whatever my designated launch rpm will be. Has anyone tried this and what have been the results.

You got the concept right. May not be a good idea to go to full throttle, cuz when the clutch is released and the switch is activated, the 2-step will be released and the bike will want to go to whatever throttle position you are holding it at.

Without a wheelie bar, you will either flip over, or you may blow the tire away.

I talked to Ryan Schnitz about it, and he said he would suggest starting out at a low RPM and then work your way up as you get used to it. He said to not start out at 100% throttle when on the 2-step until it gets comfortable and you know that your bike can accept it without flipping over.

I've been curious to try one myself, but never did.

okay i think i see. So i guess if i do about a quarter throttle or a half and then feather the clutch i can get some good consitant launches.

2 steps are not good for a ZX bike...You need to slip the clutch to prevent the bog you would get when you snap the clutch out no matter if the throttle is at 50, 75 or 100 %...

I have one on a zx 14 with slick and bars, works great. I launch at 7500 rpm, and hold on. I had to put a switch on the clutch lever to get it to work right. But pretty easy to work with.

I thought it worked off of the factory clutch switch, no?

I used to ride bar bikes and 2-steps are a nice thing to have. I would not recommend one on a no bar bike. Its like Croth Rocket said, you have to slide the clutch, this is going to get you more consistancy than the 2-step. After all if you think about it a fraction of an inch either way greatly affects the engines rpms at launch, its not like you can make a mark on your throttle and hold it there. I tried a few years ago on my 12. If you are looking at putting bars on the bike this would be a great thing to have otherwise I would stay away from it. Just my opinion, hate to see you end up less consistant and out cash to boot.
