SHINKO's??
Hey guys
Has anyone any experience with these SHINKO tires on the street??
I have seen lots of draggers running them, so I had assumed they were a drag tire. But now I see the economical pricing on these tires and my ZX14 really likes it's tires!! So I am curious!
Do I use the 003 Stealth or 005 Advance?
Thanks!!

Ultra soft. Got one on mine. Not a cornering tire but you get twice the rubber on the ground as a reg. street tire

if you're just racing at the dragstrip, get the 003 ultra soft. if you plan on doing some street riding too, the regular 003 will last longer and still is fairly sticky. like pat said, they are not for cornering, they have a flatter profile. I have the regular 003, and it is alot better than the stock bridgestone. I've heard the u-soft is awesome, but I still like to ride on the street some.

I ride only street....so you guys are saying the 003 is not as pointy as say a BT014? So perhaps I would want a 005?

if you want a cornering tire, I would say the Michelin Pilot power is a good one. It's very sticky and more pointed profile for cornering.

I have ran 2 on my stock wheelbase 14 (mostly street). They are cheap so no worries on beating them up but they suck for street traction unless you drop the air pressure down very low (then the bike is and feels much slower). I have hit corners very fast and hard with them without incident but keep in mind, they are cheap for a reason. There shape is also shitty for turning as they are very flat. If you wanna leave a 50ft. tire mark and a smoke show for onlookers then these are the tires for you.
I wont run one again unless I know it will be driven mostly on the track. They work great at the track FYI.

i have a regular 003, not the ultra soft and it is doing real good on the street, hooks up at the strip, and seems to corner just fine for me. i am going to buy the same tire again this winter. i will need a new front also.

I have the regular 003, and i love it. Corners fine, hooks great, and last the longest out of all the tires i have ever used for dual duties, drag and street.

I love my ultra soft. It works great on the street and hooks at the track. I use my bike mostly at the dragstrip but i take it out on rides all the time. I'm not a roadracer at all (kinda hard with a sindwinder) but it works great for semi hard riding on the street. The tire doenst have the round'd corners like the newer tires....to me if your going to be pushing a bike hard enough to use the side of the tire you should probaly be on the track. This was yokahamas *spelling* old qualifying tire about 5-10 years back....and they last forever under heavy use. I just had this conversation with one of my new suppliers today....ironic

shinko is probably your best bang for your buck. 2wheel tuner did a article on the tire months ago and they said the same thing.

Very cheap tire, price wise but is also very heavy. If you are planning on doing any roll-ons on the street, stay away from this tire. It will slow you down. Has great traction, though but is too heavy. 15lbs vs 13lbs on most of the other tires. Alot of difference when you're talking about unsprung weight.

ZX14's come with a 190 rear tire, I thought I would be cool and put a 200 Shinko 003 on and see if it would give me a better hole shot. Lets put it this way my bike is basically stock except for the usual Muzzy pipe, PC3, Lowering links, front down 1 ½" and tie downs. I can do an 1/8th mile burnout, I burn 1st - 3rd in the 1/8th not by choice, just can not hookup. I have since read that if you want better holes hot at the drags go one size under stock, a 180 gives you more surface. Mean while I have been putting on some great shows with super long smoky burnouts. Reminds me of the early 80's with the KZ1000 and the hard rubber tires and checking out the spaces between shifts.

so how wide is the contact patch on your 180? what air pressure do you run? I run a 200 Shinko and the contact patch is almost 6". wee

Oh forgot to mention I have 7" extension, I was really spinning then, I just shortened it up to 5" that makes my wheel base is now 62.5". It looks like my contact patch is between 5 1/2" - 6" but that was running it as low as 12lbs. It already feels better shortening the wheel base, I was even letting the tiedowns up to shift weight to the back wheel. I'll be out a the drags Thursday, let you know what happens. I was running better with stock swingarm and tire than I am know. I just have to mess with it and find the best combination. Any suggestion?

When I went to the drags with the extension and 200 Shinko, I didn't know what to expect so I launched and ran the way I always have and ran a good run. Nothing scary so I figured I'd let it rip and thats when I started all the burning out stuff. I've been practicing my launches back in an industrial area. I've really brought down the RPM's to 4-5000 without the front tied down (have to on the street) and it seems to be getting a lot better traction. What kind of RPM's are you launching at? When I first got this ZX14 I was doing 1/8th mile wheelies to now 1/8th mile burnouts. Frustrated!

is the tire a u-soft, also I can make the tire spin by reving high and popping the clutch, so track conditions, clutch release, gearing, can cause tire spin. I leave at 7500-8000rpm. wee

I run the 200 shinko (u-soft) at stock wheelbase with 32 pounds of pressure. I never spin unless I'm out of the groove. I Launch at 4500 rpms and 60fts are (1.54-1.55) with 330fts (4.07-4.09).
My next tire will be a 190 or 180 though.

I just recently put a set of the Diablo Corsa III's on my 14 and I love 'em! They're dual compound. The sides are softer than the middle. I like it better than the pilot powers because it has a bigger percentage of the softer compound on the edges. The pilots have like 1 inch where the corsas have like 2 or 2 1/2 inches of softer compound. They grip killer!!! If you want a great street tire for curves, get these.

Ran the Shinko 200's and lost 10 HP on the dyno. The shinko is a very heavy tire. Many people buy it because it's a very cheap tire and it does hook well. Currently running the Perelli Corsa III. Great tire.
