I have washed mine with a mild liquid automotive soap.
All the dirt came out and there was still enough oil on it for proper filtration. The paper is tuff and does not damage easily. I would not recommend this though. Next time around it is a new one. Food for thought is that I did have a look at the bmc filter and came to the conclusion that the filtration is not good. I could see gaps in the filter and WONT trust the filtration. It looked much like the K&N filter I used on my Golf GTI and after inspecting the air intake I found fine dust on the suppose to be clean side. Is there a tipe of sponge like race filter for the 14? Anyone with info on this.

At the risk of sounding like an accountant, the 14's air filter is fairly inexpensive (at least compared to Honda) . I think if I remember correctly it's under 20 dollars, maybe the shop undercharged me but that was one of the few nice surprises of the ZX-14.
