Can anyone walk me through the steps on changing my front sprocket to 16T
It seems that every place I ask to pull the stock front sprocket and put on a 16T want to keep the bike most of the day and always mention that they need to take a link out of the chain. It cant be that hard or take that long to change out can it? Can anyone give me a walk through or steps on how to knock this little project out please. Yes i used the search function but was unable to pull up anything with great detail.

Here goes
1. Remove lower fairing on sprocket side.
2. Remove bolts holding the sprocket cover. I think there's 4. Locate the clutch slave cylinder. It is part of the sprocket cover and is round, has three bolts on it. The upper bolt is longer and goes all the way into the engine case, remove this along with the cover bolts. I just leave the cover to hang out of the way.
3. There is a washer behind the front sprocket, one side will staked to prevent the nut from coming off . Take a chisel and a hammer and bent it down flat.
4. To remove the sprocket nut, an impact is the best way. Don't know how well a ratchet will work, but a large breaker bar may work. I did it by sitting on the bike, holding the rear brake with my foot while leaning down and taking the nut off with the impact. This would be more complicated if you don't have an impact. After you take the nut off, remove the washer behind it.
5. Now you have to loosen the rear axle nut and the chain adjusters all the way to get the chain loose enough to get the sprocket off. I just pulled on the chain and sprocket all together and it slid off the splines. Then I pulled the sprocket out of the chain.
6. Slide your 16t into the chain and put it back over the splines. You'll have to kind of wiggle it, but it should slide back on as long as you have the chain plenty loose. Once it's all the way on, put the washer then the nut back on. The nut gets torqued to 90 ft/lbs, I think. Check the manual for torque spec. You'll have to hold the rear brake again while you torque it. After you torque it, get your chisel and hammer and stake the washer back up against the nut like it was before. Reinstall the sprocket cover and fairing. Adjust the chain.
That should be it. Hopefully if there's anything I forgot someone will chime in. It's not hard if you have an impact. If you don't have one, you should try to get access to one.

Sprocket nut is on there tight!!!!! You'll pull rib muscles trying to get it off with anything shorter than a 3 foot breaker bar....

I dont have an impact tool so it looks like im off to the store in search of a big @ss breaker bar because i cant see buying an impact tool for just one nut. I could never sell that one to the Boss. Any other tricks on this one?

if you're going to use a breaker bar, i would recommend having another person there to hold the brake for you and keep the bike from moving around. It's going to try to turn the rear wheel and it can drive right off the kickstand if you're not careful.

Good luck on the breaker bar. Some have needed a 3/4" impact wrench to get that SOB loose. You do not need to remove a link from the chain.

I put a 2 x 4 or pipe with shop rags between the spokes on the rear wheel and rotate the wheel to bring the obstruction against the swing arm. This will prevent the wheel from moving and not allow it to drive off the stand. It works to prevent damage to the transmission while useing an impact wrench, as the transmission can be in neutral.

this maybe kinda late....
be carefull with the clutch cover bolts. I broke one off because i torqued it down too much. And make sure you are paying attention to the lenghts of the bolts you pull out to avoid any confusion or striping...like I did.
Put anti-seize on the sprocket nut. Don't overtighten it...it will haunt you the next time you want to change the front sprocket...like I did.
You only need to turn up one corner on the safety washer.
If the nut doesn't want to come loose, try the impact wrench with the shortest, fattest air hose you can find. My impact didn't work because the hose from the compressor was long and thin...not enough air for the wrench to do its work.

Ok guys, Its on. I found this little hole in the wall shop to do it for me. Thanks to all for your help and information. I know the question was asked many times and you did not bust my stones about asking the question. Your good people. This should help with the Liter bike problem out of the hole.

Tell them to be careful with the slave cylinder cover spacer. It's made out of plastic and can break easy. I broke mine, but I just superglued it back together. The bolts kinda thread into it. When I readjusted my chain, it only went back one more notch, not enough to effect anything.
