Cycle World Mag. snickers at Suzuki

Did you guys see the article in this edition of Cycle World magazine about the Hayabusa? They call major on Suzuki's marketing pic.

"NEW 'BUSA BREAKS COVER"

And they say some polite things because its just not right for any of us not to respect Suzuki, but wow.... they quote Suzuki in the article about the aerodynamics (and under a pic of the famous marketing Suzuki wind tunnel photo) and make the following statement: If real airflow was as smooth, non-turbulent and "attached" as this IDEALIZED RENDERING shows it, pedal BICYCLES would go 60 MPH!

But the writers claim the "brand-manager" is smiling about the new bike.

And I so wanted Suzuki to come out with a bike I just had to trade for. I'm dissappointed.

I'm sure it will match the zx14 as far as power.. The Reps at Vegas when asked said 10 RWHP more over the old busa...So 164 to 165 hp is right there with the zx14 and with better aeros it should be a blast to ride.. I'm keeping my zx14 and not going to get a new busa because of that tail ....I just can't get past the look of that thing ..Bently do not leave Bikeland , we need someone like you that will give us the scoop on the new Busa and not some screwed up hype. We know you are a level headed guy and a great Bikeland member that will give us good info..... . Smokin ...

The Busa aerodynamics is slightly better than the 14's based on back-to-back wind tunnel testing by Sport Rider Magazine (Tunnel Vision Part II, Oct. 2006). Busa aero is particularly better with a rider on board in full tuck relative to the 14. So one does have to give some credit to the aero designers at Suzuki. However, the thing is butt ugly. I'd still take my 14 over a Busa.

A guy with a 'busa told me "aerodynamics are very much not pretty".

I said really, then why do fighter jets, Italian sports cars, and Formula one racers look oh so good? :P

it will be more than 10hp.with all that work done to the engine to get 10 more hp.carpenter gets 200 to rear wheel with head work and tuning.lighter vale train and more comp and the head will match the new set up with more fuel from 8 injectors.some will run 200mph stock with the top end unrectricted.it only took 160hp to rear for busa to run 194

Old Busa was only good for 185ish without wind assistance.

194 would take a hurricane.

194 is near red line and the stock exhaust and crap air box design has lost 10-15 hp after peak by then.

Me thinks the first Busas the mags got were rather "special" as the ones the public got were nowhere near as fast.

according to cycle world cda remains the same for the '08 vs. previous models but offers better rider comfort/wind protection.

yup, no improvement in aerodynamics...that is why they cut that joke about Sazook's marketing pic. The changes benefit rider comfort, but same drag coefficient exists.

the really funny part is alot of people will think thats a real pic from the wind tunnel. i used to spend a lot of time in the dirt and i can't tell you how many guys i came across who thought the "powerband" was an actual component on a 2-stroke that could be replaced with a "bigger" one
