Any experience with Progressive wound springs
Been looking at Hyperpros progressive wound springs as a replacement for my sagging stock stuff. With the combo of commuting touring and track days they SEEM like a possible answer.
Any experience out there?

From my experience in motocross applications, progressive springs were very difficult to get the hydraulic damping curves to match well.
I have done quite a bit of suspension tuning, and suspension work.
Personally would steer away from progressive springs.
I prefer straight wound springs.
Race tech springs are very reasonably priced too.
Bought my fork springs from Schnitz racing.
I went from stock 5weight oil to 7weight oil, and the combination is very nice with the 1.0 kg/mm springs I chose for my bodyweight= 195lbs.
When I make an adjustment on the clickers I can really feel adifference in the damping curve.
I could have went traxxion or ohlins cartridges but I think for steet use that is way overkill.
Will decide after some more miles.
The rear ohlins shock should land on my doorstep any day.... can't wait!
Hard racing gave me an awesome deal on it and a scotts damper, braided lines etc!!

Dubious: Is your Ohlins shock the drag shock or street? I need to do suspension work and am debating the pro's and cons of either getting a new shock or having race Tech re-spring, install gold valve, and re-valve the stock shock.

Thx Dubious, hadnt thought about damping. I geuss any adjustment would be for part of the springs rate.
Will most likely go with a race tech then. Probably the 1.0 as its closest to my weight for racing apps. Will check race techs site again and see what it comes up with for recommendation for street too.
For my needs I feel that 7wgt oil might be a bit much though. Did you use race techs oil? If so whats you thoughts on it?
It sure seems both the stock springs sagged out quickly. I got enough sag in back for my KDX!!
Thanks, TC

The ohlins part number for both shocks was the same.
Ordered mine with Heavy11.0 kg/mm spring for my 6 inch Trac arm.
6 inchs underbraced seemed the best compromise for street and drag.
It will still transfer well enough on the street to hook up and handle well, while allowing me to get on it harder at the track.
It has adjustable shackle/shock length, remote preload and damping adjusters.
Between the adjustable links, and remote preload, and tire pressure, quick adjustments for weight transfer, and traction should be nice.

Your most welcome!
The 7 weight oil actually increases the entire damping curve linearly, and for springs that stiff i highly recommend it.
The stiffer springs will want to rebound faster, and the rebound damping is very limited with lighter oil. It will likely want to bounce up quickly after compressing.
bouncing up from compression can be very dangerous, especially leaned over.
It causes the contact patch to diminish or can even cause the frt tire to leave the ground!
It is critical to ensure your rebound damping can control the spring.
On the stock frt suspension the springs are so soft it couldn't bounce, and damping was not so critical.
with the 1kg springs and 7 weight oil, my rebound adjuster is about mid position, whereas stock i had it turned almost all the way in!
The compression adjuster is now backed out to about 1/3 of the adjustment range.
I have alot of room to play with the adjusters now, whereas stock, they were cranked all the way.
I am still fine tuning.
I will have alot of time to get it dialed tight next week when i head to British Columbia!
