PC III Location
My PC III USB (pre-loaded w/ the stock exhaust, no flies map) should be on my doorstep as we speak. I'll be installing the PC (and) doing the butterfly mod this evening. Should I expect the PC III to come with mounting instructions specific to the 14? The last time I put in a PC was 2000 w/ my ZX12R and I can't remember how the install instructions were set up. Has there been a general consensus here on the board as to where the PC should be located? Do I need to pick up any special supplies on the way home to aid in the installation like Velro, tape, or special fastners?
Thanks in advance.

Man i can tell you that it is the easiest Pc i have ever installed. It is just one plug on the main harness an a ground on the battery. The instructions are very good, so it will go easy. But as far as were it is mounted, that the part i dont like, its mounted on the left ram air duct, why, well my guess is no room under seat. But i would get some zip ties and dont forget your plugs for the pc that keeps water out.

mine is under the seat. be sure to ground to the battery - i grounded to the frame (bare metal) and that wasnt good enough. did you get your pc3 preloaded with no flies from zx1kr/bill @ cyclepaintmetal.com?

I didnt like the idea of mounting mine under the ram air tube so I put mine under the windshield works perfect and it works well for street racing as you can tell people I dont even have a power commander on my bike you can look all you want they never think to look under the windshield LOL

You all thought it was easy? I fought that freaking plug for at least a half hour. Maybe I was just doing it wrong, but I couldn't hardly reach it..

I agree with you there.... and when I got stranded on my way to work in 90 degree weather last year because the ground wire was bad... I had to put the stock plug back in again... I was dripping wet... and freaking mad!!! The plug is too short!!! lol... I think that the Busa was super easy... the tank swiveled up, put in a couple of plugs and I was done. On the 14... the stupid coolant bottle ground was rediculous. I will say that access to the 14 PCIII now is super easy once that plug is done. Changing maps is a snap.

I put mine by the Ram-Air tube, as per the instructions. Maybe not as neat as under the seat but it was so tight just getting the Speedo Healer cable through there that I didn't even try with the larger PC3 connector. I don't need to access it very often so it's fine.
There is a thread on here somewhere with pictures showing how to route the cable from under the seat up the right-hand side of the bike to the fuel injection rail.

O-K, I did the mods last night (installation of the PC III and the removal of the flies). It took me a good 3.5 hours from start (taking the plastic off) to finish (putting everything back together). I'm a decent mechanic, but I took my time, particularly with the flies, because I have a tendency to rush when I'm frustrated and screw things up. I sure as hell did not want the headache of stripping a head or dropping something in the engine. Initially, I thought I'd stripped one of the screws for the flies, but I was able to recover. As has been said before, I warmed the bike up for a good, long while, placed the screwdriver in the screw head, tapped on it with a hammer to get it really seated, and used A LOT of downward pressure as I turned screws. Luckily, I eventually got them all out without stripping any. I just took my time. The loooong, magnetized #2 phillps is a must!
As for the PC III, I put it on the ram air vent per the instructions. With the zip ties and some electrical tape to join the stock/PC III wiring, it's a good, snug fit. Had I taken a weekend day with more time to do everything, I might have put the unit under the seat, but it just did not seem like there was enough room.
To answer Countersteer's question, I got the unit from morepowerracing.com for $260 delivered and mapped. To expound on Steve's post ... don't you know they delivered the unit with the wrong freakin' map. I asked for the stock air filter/stock exhaust/ no flies map but instead they sent the unit loaded with the full muzzy exhaust/tre map. Luckily I'd already gotten the right map from Dynojet, so I just loaded it on the PC III from my computer.
IMPRESSIONS - You all were right! After I got everything buttoned back up, I took the bike out from about 10:45PM until about midnight. Even with the stock exhaust, the bike is now an even bigger beast with bigger nutz. The acceleration is just freakin' ridiculous. As others have said, it now feels like what it probably should have felt like all along. VERY strong, VERY crisp, VERY powerful, but still VERY predictable, manageable and smooth. It's like it's the same as it was before, only stonger.
IF YOU HAVE NOT DONE THIS MOD, DO IT NOW! YOU WILL NOT REGRET IT, I PROMISE!!!

Does this modification void the warranty? How easy do you suggest the job is. I was looking to save money by doing the mod myself. I was going to do the exhaust at the same time.

Drew, check your email for a PM. As for the warranty, I don't know. The way it's riding, I almost don't care.

Did mine the same way as MDWZX14. Note, if you don't have a mag screwdriver, you can get a magnetizer for about 3 bucks at most hardware stores. Use a NEW screwdriver, I spent 10 bucks for a brand new SNAP-ON 8" #2. Weighed 10 bucks vs. the headache of a dropped or stripped screw on an 11 thou bike??? NO BRAINER! Got my PC3 from motofuel.com and they double the Dynojet warranty to two years. They also have a ton of maps. Awesome support and 2 day shipping for like 259.00 or so.
Just got all my SS lines the surfside moto speed bleeders for all around. Thats the next project!

mounted mine next to the left ram air tube. it also makes an easy connection for the dynojet lcd i added and the wires come right out under the fairing to the techmount. if it was under the seat there would be more work to do. three screws and voila.....unlimited access
