new to 2-up riding
I met a new girl the other day and she wants to ride with me tomorrow. Here's the thing, I've never had a passenger on my bike before. I'm all ears for some tips to keep in mind. We won't be doing anything crazy, just going for a cruise. She's road on sportbikes before, so she knows how to lean and everything.

tip: KEEP A SCREWDRIVER WITH YOUR BIKE and enjoy the ride!
I ride smaller wiminz so its almost like no one is back there anyway.
Another tip is if you're not careful, they'll have a view of the speedometer. Although 80-90 is slow on an uncrowded freeway 2-up, it tends make some of the women nervous and in some cases has completely ruined my night.

Yeah, the fastest she said she has been was about 90 and it scared her. She said she's comfortable between 60-70. She's not a big girl but she ain't boney either, I'd say around 140ish. I figure the 14 can handle it no problem. Thanks for the screwdriver tip, haha.

I always make sure I have both feet on the ground for when she gets on and off.Even tho she may be use to riding sport bikes, throttle control should be smooth. On a cruise, sometimes my wife will get lost in her own little world and a sudden increase on the throttle can catch her off guard.I also will tell her when I'm about to pass so she can hold on better.A little communication can go a long way in making her feel safe with you.

there is less room to move about and the weight from behind can put more pressure on the crotch area, try to avoid stop and go driving

See, thats one more reason I don't put biguns on the bike!

Lets put it in perspective, can you picture this chick on my little sportbike?

You won't notice the weigth at all at any kind of speed, but even a bony chick makes it very different when you start moving. At first be very careful at stop lights, parking lots, etc... Once you're hardly any difference at all.
One other thing, in my experience if someone says they "know how to lean" they are the ones that will cause you more problems. Tell her to just hold onto you and not try to do any leaning of her own.
Have Fun

coast up (slower) to stop lights, signs etc and ease on the back brake only, this will keep the front end from diving and sending her into your back. when up shifting don't roll off the throtle all the way when you pull the clutch in to shift, maybe just halfway. that'll keep her off your back as well

Found the 14 istoo long for most to do this, hand on the tank thing.. the passenger seat is waaaay back there compared to lterbike.
I found clutchless upshifts are much smoother for the passenger, less jerking than clutched shifts no matter how delicate I was.
I upshift without the clutch almost all the time anyway.
make sure you instruct them to make sure you are notified before they mount and dismount, and that theylean in the same diection as you- into the corner!
Good rule of thumb is they should lean about 50% of your lean.
I hate it when the passneger hangs off the bike , or sits up straight mid corner!
If your roads are rougfh at all, I gaurantee you WILL feel the shock bottom on rubber bottomimg cone.
Never try to outrun the cops with a passenger.
Had to bring it up as I know an idiot who did that and they wrecked...

I have always used this addage when it comes to the passenger "Leaning with you" Tell her to look over your inside shoulder that will usually provide just the right amount of lean and be VERY CAUTIOUS OF BUMPS IN CORNERS!!!

I use signals like I tap my girls legs when I am about to let it loose and I pull her legs close to me when I am about to take a turn. But me wife is a good rider. You might want to take it easy with her! My wife know to tap my helmet too when she sees the police. If she taps and squeeze, it's time to haul ass! LOL Now would I do a thing like that???

Thanks guys, but I have some bad news. I sent a pic of the 14 to her phone yesterday because she wanted to see what it looked like. She said later she showed the pic to her dad, and he told her she was crazy if she thought she was getting on that thing! So she said it would probably be best if she didn't ride with me today. I respect that I guess :P

That to me is a problem. I like riding solo and would be annoyed if I had to cart around someone all the time like Driving Miss Daisy.
For future reference it really doesn't matter how big or small the woman is that you have as a passenger; I've ridden girls that were a pencil thick and I rode some bigguns and honestly the smaller ones can cause more problems because they can move around the saddle more. Just be ready for the extra weight regardless.

Yes I agree its a problem to ALWAYS have to ride someone, just like ALWAYS having a lady follow you around or anything else when someone is 100% stuck up yer arse
And yes the bigguns can be less of a problem to ride than the small ones. Personally, I just don't have a need to ride bigguns! And no matter what, they do take more room on the bike- no need for a physics debate here.....see my post above :P
