Harley Riders...wave or dont wave?
hey guys give me your opinion maybe im the only one that feels this way. I was out riding today and our area is pretty populated with harleys. so im cruising along and 3 harleys coming at me so i stick out my left hand and point. they clearly looked right at me and didnt wave back. this isnt the first time for this, so i basically look at it like this, screw em if they think there better than me just because there on a harly f&^%in davidson, if i wanted my nuts to rattle together, and be like everyother tom dick and harry id get one. until then im not wavin. so is it like this everywhere with them?

I own one and I don't bother waving -- most of these guys think there's no bike on the planet, except a Hardly...

Man, that stuff drives me CRAZY! I never had a sports bike of any size not give me recognition. I always thought that was one of the best things about motorcycle camaraderie. Harley guys are the only ones that seem to collectively ignore people.

Its funny... now days....with so many companies making big twin cruisers im not always 100% if its a Harley comming at me... when you wave & they dont respond ....feels like you got dissed ... so im like tenative with Harley Guys....id say they respond maybe 50% of the time.....maybe.... if its a Sports bike..i wave & get a wave back i'd say 95% of the time

That looks like one of those super reinforced hats that protect the top of your head in crashes up to 1 mile per hour.

Don't have too much of a problem. Most guys wave or wave back. The others feel stupid when their wife or girl throws one up, so they wave out of embarrassment or guilt.
Still could care less.
My issue is finding sportbike riders to ride with. Kinda funny that I here about me riding that bad ass bike, but nobody seems to be serious about a group ride.
Lots of posing around here.
Sorry for jackin' this thread.

I live in the Milwaukee area... so you can imagine the amount of Harleys around here. Not only do they not wave.. but they rev the motors and make a lot of noise. Just go past the local bars in this area... 2 or 3 sport bikes... and 100 Harleys.. they are probably too drunk to wave.... I pretty much give a quick finger point at every bike. I would say 10% of the sport bikes don't wave... and about 50% of the Harleys don't wave. Either way... I am enjoying myself. Every time I ride I hear, "get a real bike", or "get a Harley" at least once. Or the people I work with, (police officers) ask, "how can you ride like that... that is so uncomfortable". Then the ape hangers pull up and I just shake my head... One thing worse is the poor guy that rides his Vulcan to work.... man does he take the heat... "sissy bike..." I will say that I have never had a Busa pass without waving.... Most dual sports don't wave...and the full out tour bikes... bmw's with bags and rain gear etc... tend to not even see me... they are so into the road.

Well, if you wanted to appear big and bad, the kind of guy who bites the head off a chicken, would you go round waving at people ?
Probably all accountants with an image problem anyway.

Have the same problem here in Cincinnati. About 50% of the Hardley riders wave. I traded in my 05 Screaming Eagle Electra Glide for my 14. I'm getting to the point where I just want to say screw you and not bother waiving at any cruiser.
My favorite quote from above: "They're probaly to drunk to waive."
I often ride with my dad and uncle who have Hardley's...I always get a waive when I'm with them...go figure.
It seems like the times have changed and the bad ass rebel bikers are the guys with sportbike's not the dude with his beard and biker vest cruising to the next stop on a poker run.

So true. Basically, Harley riders used to be on the fringe of society and now they are so mainstream that they make me want to puke. I go to our local Harley dealership on Sundays when they have cookouts and bands and I get a huge kick out of the derision in their eyes when I creep through their parking lot. For the most part, Harley riders are huge posers. There has always been something about a crowd going in one direction that makes me want to go the other way.

Yeah, not much of a problem in my area of Virginia. A lot of people could care less, as long as it's on two wheels. But there is an intimidation factor with some riders. Then they have to stick their chest out.
Still funny to see some folks try to be arrogant and try to hide that big grin after stopping and talking to them. The whole time, their eyes are on the bike, like a chick with tig ol' bitties. They "hardley" ever say anything about their bike.
Some of the Mountain Boys try to play hard for their buddies (At the Time). But I could see them the next weekend at the Bike Shop and there's a whole different attitude.
Quit Frontin'!
Too funny!

In CA most Harleys don't wave. Therefore if they wave first, I will return the wave.

I always wave, doesn't bother me one way or the other. Here in South Texas, everyone for the most part waves, and there really is no bike stereotypes here. Just show common courtesy.

I dislike the apathy. I can understand if you are in a town with so many motorcycles that waving would be tiresome, but I live in West Palm Beach, and I tell ya there aren't that many bikes around here. It isn't so hard to lift two fingers in greeting... instead I find myself wanting more to lift just one.
Perhaps it is an old tradition that needs to be phased out. I swear, only 10 years ago it was way different. Bikers were ALL glad to see one another regardless of what they rode. I mean, at the bike shop it is so much different because everyone equals out but once you are out in the street it's like people have their own little clicks. That's one reason I hate WPB though; the entire city is full of "clicks".

I wave anyway! 2 wrongs don't make it right and I know my bike is like a hundred times better than theirs anyway! By the way, for those that think they are bad, take a tour with me back to Iraq where they could care less about your noise makers. They will bust your fuckin head in a heatbeat and not think twice about it. For the most part, they wave back but if they don't, fuck'em!
