each STOCK bike will vary on peak hp at different rpm, they will be close, so telling someone what rpm is peak hp cant be answered. between 10-11k. you can feel the power drop around there. wee

Wheelie is right ...Try 9500 then 10000 then 10500 ....The best shift point will be your highest MPH....Smokin..

As close to the rev limiter as you can .... Limiter is at 11400 so try to get it right before that 11200 11300 ...Smokin..

So since I'm running the smeg system w/street map and no flies, would redline be the best shift point for me? I'm fixing to load the maxton map though for my next trip to the track.

Each gear the shift point will be different, for max acceleration. Typically 1st to 2nd on most bikes is redline... shift too early and you fall too low. Then after that it is gearing dependent, but 2nd to 3rd will likely be at redline also. Then a bit lower for 3-4, and 4-5 and 5-6 respectively... Once upon a time there was a chart that I had that showed gearing vs hp vs speed, and it made it simple.

as far as one ZX-14 being different from another (bone stock out of the box) well, yes, slightly, but not enough to make a difference really as far as this is concerned.

Ok, so in the 1/8 I'm good going all the way to redline.

as with any engine install a shift lite and kill box at the least. experiment with different shift points close to readline. analyze your time slips and you will find the hot set up.
i spend most my time second guessing track and air changes .the dam cars leave shit all over the track.i feel like getting down to look at the track like a golfer .

Agreed, just before the limiter cuts in.

BTW, the on-bike rev counter might say 11400rpm or thereabouts but I think the instrument is about 6 or 7% optimistic. The rev-limiter would actually be cutting in at about 10800rpm and this is the figure I have been using to work out my gear ratios for top speed events. If you work out the ratios on paper or a spread sheet using the readings from the tachometer you'll never make it.

For example in 6th gear:
11400rpm on 17/41 standard gearing = 215mph, which we know is wrong
10800rpm on 17/41 standard gearing = 204mph, which is about right

For quarters in 4th gear:
10800rpm on 17/41 gearing = 158.7mph
10800rpm on 16/41 gearing =149.4mph

(These speeds are "real" mph, not speedo readings.)
____________
Candy Thunder Blue 2006 ZZR1400
Stock wheelbase
Max: 205.4 mph in 1.25 miles

2012 ZZR1400 in Golden Blazed Green
Brock CT Full System. etc
Max: 203.1 in 1 mile (so far)
