It's hot and humid as a mofo down here right now. I friend of mine on a Buell was complaining yesterday about how his fan wouldn't shut in this heat. LOL

you think? I wouldn't bet on that if I was you!
Fish I let my bike idle today for 25 minutes on hot tar. Weather was 91 degrees with a humidity index of over 100. I had to do that because so many insist their 14 needs an extra fan.
For my ZX14 that extra fan would serve one and only one purpose - additional weight on my bike.
Sure you may be able to somehow artificially make my bike overheat, but it stayed out on the hot tar idling longer today than I could've sat out in it on the hot pavement. I walked up and checked on it occassionally.
I cannot figure out folks that claim the 14 overheats. Again, I'm one of those that got shipped a "Florida model". Mine, nor Smokins, nor Tony's, nor any others in FL belonging to friends I ride with in extreme heat have an overheating issue whatsoever.
I didn't have an overheating problem when I rode through half of last summer with the stock exhaust system either, but it does run even cooler with the Brock's.
I would like to see one of these many ZX14s I hear about that overheat, because in Florida "it just ain't happening".

Well rub my bottle and poof I appear. I've had nothing but heat issues with mine since I bought it. rode it 400 miles before I used it to commute thru Seattle traffic in high 80's dry heat. I encountered the heat warning flash twice, both times I said hell with it and lane split/shoulder drove up to 60 mph till it cooled enough to stop the flashing dash. No coolant puked but I know it was close. As the miles piled on, it runs SOMEWHAT cooler, but if I ride below 60mph, even in light around town traffic, it still stays at the top, 1 click from overheating. Been to the dealer, nothing he can do, gauge is working properly, thermostat and fan working, just the way it is he says. I've only ridden in a couple days of low 90's heat, with low humidity, but i dread it now. I've just received my Muzzy fan blade, and I'm going to order another stock fan for extra cooling, too. And my dealer has said that all 6 14's he has sold the owners all complained about heating issues. You might have the "Florida" model, but I got the "Washington" model and it's a hot biaatch. Wanna trade?

No man, can't trade. There's a few of us here in FL on these boards that ride through scorching FL heat on a daily basis with no probs. I sure hope the Muzzy and extra fan solves it for you.

i've rode in plenty of 95+ heat with awful humidity stuck in d.c. trafficand have never overheated. been on the 4th bar alot but never flashed the warning and never puked coolant(except when a rock went threw the rad) before changing exhaust and pulling flies it normally stayed on 3rd bar, now stays on 2nd bar while cruising-3rd in town unless it's hotter than hades. i've heard alot of people claim their bike runs "hot" but never define what that is. anyone ever take readings with an infared temp gun? the fan doesn't even come on when on the second bar and has to sit idling quite awhile on third bar before it kicks on. if the engine is running cooler than it needs to it causes excessive wear which is the biggest reason for shorter life of air cooled motors vs. liquid cooled. so far as i've heard bikeland had the only stock 14 that actually puked

Once warmed mine NEVER gets below middle bar, and once it goes one bar past middle line on gauge the fan comes on as advertised. the dealer used an infrared gun on it, said it read 220 deg F when it was at its "normal" temp while idling, 1 bar from very top. He got this number by zapping the upper radiator hose, not sure where you're supposed to read it from. The 220 number passed on to me by the front counter guy, was never able to actually talk to the guy working on it, but sounds right. My TL1000R usually hits around 220 F before both fans start working. Gonna install the fan today so I'll post the how-to directions along with a few days of traffic driving results in a new post since this one has been majorly hijacked already.
