Hello from Australia

Hi there,
I know a few Aussies use this site, but none in good old sunny Queensland AFAIK.

Have been reading this site for well over 2 years, since the XZ14 was even first mentioned.

I'm 45 and have been dying to get something to solve my mid life crisis - back to the old days

I have rode many bikes and have the broken bones to prove it. From the KH750's - 1000's, CBX's (*sigh*), Z1's, GSX1100 - remember the Katanas'? and so on.

My favorite was my Suzuki GT250, bored out to 275cc, Yamaha RD 250 carbys, with RD250 front alloy wheel, Electronic ignition, Expansion pipes, Over sized needles and fully ported (Did my own altering of the Intake and Exaust ports with a rusty file!), and it went like shit off a shovel - crap fuel economy, but who cares about that eh?

Currently riding a Yamaha Virago 1100 as a 'get my points back' machine. I did have a GSX1100G, and after importing a wonderful fairing for from the Netherlands (only one in Australia), I acumulated interest from the local constabulary a few times and my points kept increasing. So i had to slow down a bit.

I like shaft (sick of chain adjusting and lube crap all over the place. Nevermind the cost, even with changing the sprockets as well!

And yes the Concors - or known here as GTR1400, looks very nice. But i don't buy 1st year bikes. Look at the FJR1300 (I got so close to getting one of those), but every year they made some better change.... But it does look as though the 06 model is about right - then they bring out this brake link thing!!! Nevermind we never heard of the ball heating problems, until the 06 model comes out.....!

But the ZX14 (bar the chain), seemed just like the thing i had to have. But now the new Busa is out.

I like the bold look, it looks great (yeah the rear bubble is bad - but it might be a nice sized compartment).

I agree that Kawasaki and Suzuki are in the same bed. If S wanted to to kill the ZX14, then they would have made 1400cc or even 1500cc. But it's all a market. You can see them around a table: "Ok K, we will let you have it for 2 years, and then we will take it back. Ok S thanks for that, and in 09 we will do the ZX1500 ok?".

I wonder how Yamaha can get in? The R1 has never really taken the crown from the 1litre Gixxer. And those 1ltr Gixxers are BMF's!!! anyway you look at them.

So I hope to have some input to the forum, even though i'm not an owner 'yet' of one of these great bikes.

BTW, lets not fill this ZX14 site with to much 08 Busa stuff.

I'm still waiting the contiuation of that ZX**** guy with his HID lights. We never did see any photo's of his set up did we? I can't recall the post now, but someone asked for a set to test, but there was never any reply to it.

Ok. Had my say and just thought i would add a picture of my old GSX1100G, but i can't see how to add a picture of it. And i think there is a sticky on how to do this, but i worried about flicking back to see how to do and lose all this type.... I'll click on the- Help On: Pictures that i can see on the left hand side later.

I'll have a look later and post it if i can..

Cheers,

Alan.

Ok, Pics... See how i go.

Hope this works out:

Why (sealed) shaft is good sometimes good in Australia...

Here is my old bike - same colour, same tires, same everything. TCP made the fairing, but if you put my bike against the photo there would have been no difference - besides the rear luggage bracket.
So in fact it was 'my' bike. She looks nice *sigh*

http://i202.photobucket.com/albums/aa36/obba41/MyBike.jpg

I had the seat made up with stiffer foam, and when the guy asked me about colour i would like the seat cover to be (you yanks use color), I went, ok? What colour can i have?

He showed me a nice purple. Wow, i thought "that would be different". Only later, did the girls at work ask me if i knew what the colour purple meant. I said no. They told me that it means "you are sexualy frustrated".

I laughed.... of course you would at the time:..... But little did they know that i was - or am now... Shit! Fuck. the secret is out...!!!!

No Pics:

Well i tried to follow the 'Pictures for dummies', and it didn't work for me.

Maybe PhotoBucket has changed it's menus.. I don't know. I can see the URL links in the post, but no pics.

Anyway, i'll call it quits for now and have a good 'carefull' read of the dummies section tomorrow.

CHeers,

Alan.

I'd be worried about wheel bearing life too...
You need a big beemer or KTM enduro for that kind of riding my friend...
Not zx14v territory for sure... 110 ft/lbs 3" ground clearance and slick tires will not help...

I didn't see any pics with pavement...

and if the local constublary gave you a hard time because he thought that one looked fast he be sendin ya to the looney bin when he see's the 14!

welcome aboard...

Thanks for the Pics Dubious

Thanks dubious for putting up the pics.
I'll still have to work out how to do it. I must have got close.

I'm usally pretty good with PC's, and i followed that link (thanks Fish), but i get stuck at number 5 with no visable link to Bikeland Org.

I'll have a go later (and not so many beers).

In the first pic, we even had a couple of snakes swim by about 2 ft away from us!

That water was about 200 yards long and i did a wade test to see how high the water was - also checking for any pot holes (not good). So keeping a line of sight / path with a tree on the other side, i realised that the water level was lower than the air box, so we gave it a go.

We wrapped rubbish bags around the end of the pipes - if you notice they are below the water line - and not a drop got in. Disconnected the battery and pushed.... She fired up first time when we got to the other side.

I've done a few tours like that. This one (5 years ago), was close to 4 thousand miles (my biggest). One day was 700miles. And she never missed a beat, no punctures, nothing. Great bike that, but damn, was it heavy...

As for being pulled over all the time in Sydney. We have some pretty cluey police riders, who know there bikes. I got stopped a few times with being asked what it was, as they didn't know the fairing - they don't like non standard fittings down here!

I'll see what other pics i can find and test it on this OP.

Thanks again and i'm hoping to have some good input.

Cheers,

Alan.

welcome, another Aussie here. I'm from Sydney and you don't see many other 14's around here. You should love the bike.

Hi Alan, welcome to the site. That river you're stood in wouldn't have any crocks in it would it?
I saw a nice ZZR1100 with a sidecar up on the Captain Cook highway north of Cairns a few years back when we were going up to the Daintree. He was taking tourists out, my dream job for when I retire I think.

Hi Rob,

Is that your Blue ZX14?

Down here they offered me the Blue for $5,000 less as they want to move the blue. I like the Blue but prefere the Black.

Fish Antlers posted a real nice White with red flames ZX14, but i guess that colour will never come over here.

Anyway, nice to say hello.

Alan.
