it definitely runs cooler with the brocks pipe and mapping

Yeah I didn't think about it but the mapping probably helps in cooling too. I'd say it runs a little richer in the lower rpms.

bigtd and everyone else... it would appear as though either you guys didnt really read the review, or if you did, you skimmed over key parts of it.

Everything Bikeland has to say about the ZX-14, including recommendations on how to address issues with the model is contained in that review.

The review is located here:

http://www.bikeland.org/story.php?storyID=32272

As you can imagine, we've been researching and dealing with this overheating issue for almost a year. I would hope that all of you would take some information away from the article, and that it might help you somewhere down the line.

I would also hope that you can appreciate that, after spending almost a year going back and forth with Kawasaki about this issue on your behalf, that none of us at the helm really have any energy left to play a game of internet debating about the subject.

It is in fact very frustrating for us to have had the OEM verify and acknowledge the issue, but also then do nothing about it for 2007 or for those who own 2006 models. You guys may think you're having fun, but this really is serious... it cost all of us a lot of night's sleep worrying about the results and how we could help you with these results.

It also cost us about $15,000 to produce.

So, you see, we're kinda done thinking about overheating. We've layed the cards on the table and it's all out in the open. This isn't a TRE vs flies thing.. it really isn't. It's a blantant safety issue, that if recreated under the right circumstances could really get someone hurt. It's no joke and it's not a debate.

fish i appreciate your in depth research and i'm sure the problems you saw are real.
i just went back and reread the whole thing for the third time.(downloaded the pdf, nice pics) there must be some circumstances present for the bike to overheat. i know six guys with zx-14s that have not had the problems with overheating or oil consumption. it seems my sample bikes are more typical specimens of the 14 than the kmc bikes you had. i respect your findings and will be on the lookout for problems.
we all bought our bikes from local dealerships with no special prep or connections. i think also that the pipe and mapping is a key difference as well. nobody i know kept the stock pipes.
thanks for the research and work you do on this site, its my favorite.

cheers, please note that we also tested a production bike delivered to us from a dealership with no special prep, which also experienced the overheating issue

Anyways... I'm done!
