new sales pitch for brock!
"If you want your 14 to run cooler, buy my exhaust today" Man I can't believe how much cooler my 14 runs now with the smeg system. I was in "stop and go" city traffic today and the highest it got was one bar above the halfway mark, and it's 90 degrees here today!!! Does this system do anything else? I'm waiting for a geenie to pop out of the megaphone and grant me three wishes

yeb.... same here, it is amazing how much difference it made vs. my 06 with slip on. heat is not a issue with mine anymore not even in slow traffic or stop lite. 95 degrees here with shit load of humidity.

I could make it overheat, even with that pipe.
Sorry boys, but coolant/fan is the solution.

By "fan" do you mean the aluminum blade for the stock fan or an extra fan?

aluminum fan would help... 2 fans would be ideal (look closely at the rad.. .you will see that it appears as though the bike had 2 fans intended)

Mine now runs on redline and water only. At 90 ambient temp, I never run more than one bar over the halfway mark when sitting in traffic -- even for extended periods and it's usually at the halfway mark, or one below while riding on highways. I've heard that the aluminum fan is a nightmare to install and offers no real benefit, not sure why they would offer any benefit in fact but I can see the double fan solution working well though. Still, I have to wonder why some bikes would run so much hotter than others?

I have the aluminum fan and it was a snap to install. No trimming /rubbing, or any other problem. The fan does move a lot more air than the stock. It in league with the right coolant helps a lot. I do have a spare radiator and fan, and plan on installing the 2nd fan when I get rountuit. Thinking wire in tandem, but also add a switch to manually turn on p;us a light so I dont forget......TB

Cool! Did you have to move the rad or just pull the fan assbly to install the aluminum one?

Would I use another fan from a 14 or is it too big to fit on the right side? I think I'm going to to this mod.

105-110 in Florida last summer and I let mine idle for half an hour and it didn't over heat. It went to the last bar with the stock exhaust, but never flashed overheat. Nor the other ZX14s around here I ride with.
I am totally confused about this ZX14 over-heating thing, it just hasn't happened to us. Maybe they ship the good ones to FL :P

Yeah, mine hasn't overheated yet either, but it's just a better knowing it can run cooler. I wish kawi would have put an actual "numbers" gauge instead of the bars.

ya I've thought about that too. Its a shame my 600RR is a 2003 model and has a real temp gauge and the 14 doesn't....but then again my 600 is a HONDA :P

I'll talk to Tonytooth, Smokin' Bigdtd, and the others here in scorching S Florida. But I think like me they have never had an overheating problem with the 14, even before the stock exhaust came off.
The big prob with mine is that seat design.....

maybe so. but sitting in scorching FL heat idling won't do it.
I can make it overheat too if I put the stock stuff back on, close it in the hot garage on one of these Florida June days, let it idle a few hours with some blow dryers aimed at it

You ran pre-production bikes didn't you...no one I know, me included, has ever had overheat issues on the 14. Mine never gets over the 3rd bar, even in 90+ temps during long idle periods. My only complaint is the heat flow onto the rider...but no overheating or even remotely close.

Mine runs very hot. In 90 degree weather it is always 5 or even 6 bars in town. On the road pretty steady at 4. If I ever get stuck in traffic on a hot day I'm sure it would overheat.

It appears as though you have reading comprehension issues... had you READ the review, you'd note that we test 2 preproduction units, and also 1 production unit, all of which displayed the same heat failure issue. Furthermore, you'd have also read that Kawasaki then duplicated and verified our findings.

So I wonder why mine doesn't display any of theses issues...nor any one else's I know either...
You'd think they would have recalled the affected bikes or addressed the issues, if there were any like that.

mine got to the top bar, with no overheat indicated on the way home when i picked it up from the dealership the first time it was ridden. they got the bike put together late and i was stuck in rush hour traffic for 45 minutes. since then it stays in the middle to 60/70 percent depending on traffic. it definitely runs cooler with the brocks pipe and mapping. today on the way to work it only got to halfway. i have the stock coolant, my bike is black, and i live in the tampa bay area of florida. the bottom line is it has never indicated an overheat condition. if you look at the manual anything else is acceptable. a nice accurate temp gauge would be nice to see what is really happening.
fish i appreciate that you and pk would ride through death valley and maybe have a problem, but if i read right the rider was about to drop before the bike did. true i do not ride in a oven, but florida traffic represents a cooling challenge that the 14 has met admirably. oh yeah mine doesn't use a drop of oil either.
