I have lost my mind or my start up rattle ...
My zx14 has allways had the start up rattle allmost from day one ....With over 500 + 1/4 miles passes and 2600 miles on the clock it doesn't rattle anymore !!!! It quit about 6 weeks ago but i didn't say anything about it for fear someone would think i was nuts ...... Even after an oil change the thing doesn't rattle on start up anymore .....Anyone else have theirs stop ???? I'm using the same oil and filter and nothing else has changed....Smokin...

The tensioner may be stuck wide open. Mine always rattles like some shit is about to exit out the side of the block for .25 of a second, then silence. Amsoil didn't help it either, it typicaly hushes most mechanical looseness, i.e. lifter chatter on R1's.

Nope, cam chain tensioner still 'loud and clear' on my bike. But at least now I have hope that it may stop making the start-up noise once I go down the track another 497 times or so....lol.

its the good karma from letting krueger take your used oil to use in his jeep(or his dart??)

My bike stopped after I switched to the mobile 1 synthetic Oil has never rattled again

The cam chain is streched to the limit and the tension rod is stuck full out. replace the cam chain and reset the tensioner. Not sure on the 14 but on most bikes you can do it in the frame.

Mine's still rattlin' like a champ in startup! Sounds just like one of them Texas rattlesnakes

mine just stopped the day \fter the dealer switched me to semi-synth .. I didn't notice it not making the noise for a few days. It's totally gone now .. and it's Motul semi-synth .. and after 6000 kms for the switch ..
I'm wondering tho.. if the new oil is causing me some slip .. or my toasted PP tire is slipping as I go for a wheelie in first .. and sometimes nothing really happens .. clutch ? tire ? tire just hit the tread wear marks

Lost mine after the 6000 km serice, and a change to Shell Ultra Advance synthetic oil.

I glad mine is not the only one with the raddle. I though i was goin crazy. I got 2200 miles on mine , and it still makes that noise on start up.

I didn't say it was, But it could be. His bike has seen a lot of track time and NOS. Mine has 4900 miles on it and rattles every start up.

Mine started that crap, but it stopped once I put the 10w-40 Castrol......I change the oil every 1500 miles.

you must not've purchased the $850 oil pan the 14 needs.
