I don't know the details about drag racing but it looked like you started out just before the green. Is there a short space that you can start without redlighting?

yes, very short space. Once you stage,((Depending on the type of lights that the track uses)) you can actually back it off just a bit to allow you a little 'runup' until the light changes.
