rear tire size for street and track?
Would a 180/55/17 tire fit on a stock rear rim? I like the profile of this Pilot Power better than the stock 190/50/17. I know it will actually fit but due to the rim width will I screw up the profile of the tire? The 10/55 is only .4" narrower than the 190 according to my calculations.

It's true that a narrower rear will handle better but ground clearance on the Kawasaki could be a problem. It's already possible to scrape it's belly on the ground with a standard 190 section.

You will gain rear height with the 180/55 and better turn in i've heard. Hope to try a 180/55 one day but i've been having too much fun with the 190/55 profile

The lower number 180 indicates a rounder tire than a 190, meaning more rubber (footprint) on the ground when leaned over. Think of it like a 300 tire is totally flat.
The one disadvantage to putting the 180 on the big bikes is their is less contact on the very "middle" of the tire and the horsepower will wear it out quicker. I already go through 2 rears for every one front.
Personally I run 190's on my ZX14. OF COURSE they are Pilot Powers, because turning my bike matters to me most and they are absolutely the stickiest tire.

Oh one more thing, for the TRACK tires, I suggest chicken-hawk tire warmers, the tires will be hot from the time the flag drops.
