144.12 MPH in Denver

Went to the track tonight. Still running pump gas and street map but I changed to Mobil 1synthetic for motorcycles. I still didn't manage to get the darn thing quicker than 10.2 but the MPH is incredible for this altitude, running a stock motor with Brock's pipe and 16 T sprocket. The tire broke loose on every run. If they would prep the track, my scale says 144 is a 9.8. The tech guys wanted to toss me because I didn't have a laniard (deadman switch) I told them that the bike has an electronic tip switch and they let me run the rest of the night but I have to bring proof next time to pass tech. Anybody else run into this problem?

Good mph. All NHRA tracks will want a tether kill, I just put one on mine. To hard to prove the stock tip over sensor works.

They tested mine at the texas mile. Simple install, relatively cheap part and schnitz has an MPS kit that looks like it belongs on the bike.

Can you imagine...Tech wants to inspect your bike, so they turn it on, let it idle and then knock it over.... to see if it works.

I never even thought of the tip over switch ....... that should be a legal kill for those
who dont want to add a dead man switch.

A tip over switch is legal according to the NHRA rule book, which I think AMA also follows. Proving it to tech is the issue.

Nope. NHRA and other sanctioning bodies are very specific about kill switches for motorcycles. They all say "tether type" kill switch attached to the rider.
I tried that one, didn't fly.

"OEM cutoff permitted in place of lanyard."

This has been in the rulebook for 3-4 years. Educate your local tech officials. Pg 31 in the 2007 rulebook.

This doesn't mean that your local track may require a lanyard in addition to minimum NHRA standards (or at a divisional, which has a rules addendum on top of the basic set of safety requirements).

Thats real good MPH Denver.
Our local NHRA track doesn't sweat the kill switch issue.
Our understanding is that NHRA has approved the OEM tip over switch.

Good luck.

From the NHRA 2007 rule book. Page 31 section 8 electrical;
quote:
"Motorcycles 10.99 seconds or quicker must be equipped with a positive ignition cutoff switch attached to the rider with a lanyard"
This part prevents you from using the tipover switch as your kill switch.
quote:
"Switch must be on the low-voltage side of the ignition circuit. Many stock machines are equipped with a handlebar-mounted thumb switch that can have a lanyard easily attached for the above purpose".
