Has this been done??
Was just fiddling around with a photograph of a black 14 and was wondering if anyone has had undertail pipes fitted?

I dont know but I like!! I used to hate undertail exhaust but after I owned one I loved it, it made every thing look less crowded and usually easier to work on!

Man! That would be clean lookin! It might be a little restrictive on the 14 though, but It would look good.

Doesn't seem like there's enough clearance to me, but I always liked the undertail exhausts.

your 900rr is alot different than a 14!
There is not enough clearance betewwn the fender and tire!.
Even if you cut the inner fender, you have to relocate all the electrics, your passenger would not like you, and then the 1.5 lb bottle of dope won't fit under the hump....
Undertails are purely cosmetic, all those tight unnecessary bends in the exhaust do NOTHING for HP.
To each his own.... Good luck.

Sure they do...........the reduce it a good bit at high RPMs :-)
I'm glad that now I can ride w/o any pipes and it's still quiter than some full exhaust kits out there.....using a special "radial muffler" did the trick.....

Twin Undertail Pipes Prototype
Ok Folks,
Well I had a crack at it.
A friend fabricated twin undertail pipes for my 14. I'm testing it out at the moment. Have done 600klm with them over the last 3 days.
Sounds the bizzo - but still need to sort out some clearance issues when riding two up. That may require some further bending.
After that we'll probably make the cans a little longer and then wrap them in carbon fibre.
Hopefully we should sort it all out in the next couple of weeks and then it'll be off to the dyno.

This was taken last Friday. Have since fabricated the link pipe and the pipe going over the swingarm to allow for more clearance.

After the weekend and 200ks with a pillion we found that there wasnt enough clearance between the pipe and tyre in the area around the rear shock. So will need to re-fab the pipe in this area. The catch 22 here is obviously having a pipe with too many bends.

The pipe sounds great. About as loud as a Muzzy M10 but alot deeper. We built in a heatshield in the wheel well which worked a treat.

Will possibly make the pipes a little bigger in diameter and then weld some rings on the end to finish them off.

I think it looks pretty kool, did you think about trying to relocate the tag so that the pipe will be the only thing there.

Hell yeah - that'd work well - even a surround for the pipes in mesh or hole punch that flow with the bike and blend the pipes in.

Thanks guys.
Have thought about the MV style of making them oval and wider. Decided to go for the above given that it would be a little easier. Cant move the tag. By law Im required to have it where it is. Dont worry it'll come off for the track days.
Carbon graphite on the cans in the next week or so.
