Traded Gixxer for 2 dirt bikes

I finally got the title straight on the Gixxer I had to repo from my Bro-in-Law. Boy was that a nightmare. Talked the dealer into changing the Cert of Origin to my wife's name once they saw the lien release. Anyway, I traded it in on a '06 KX450F and a '06 TTR125 for my son. Dealership in McComb, MS gave me both bikes for the trade+$800 OTD. I was very happy with the deal, especially since the gixxer had 8,300 mi and some scratches. The Picayune dealership, where I live wouldn't touch the deal. Oh well, I can't stand the owner anyway.

I have to say that landing a double is just as exciting as any high speed run I've done on my 14, plus I'm a lot less likely to get arrested or killed. MX track costs about the same as the local drag strip, $20. The Bonnet Carre Spillway near New Orleans was a lot of fun also, and it's free.

Sorry! Forgot how important the pics are. I lost some of my pics when my Alienware laptop crashed this week. Warning, don't use Alienware if you want something reliable. I still had these on my camera though. By the way, that's the wife driving her first motorcycle ever.

I would have some pics of me airborne but we forgot to bring the camera to the track on what could have been my last day alive, or at least with full use of my limbs. I'll have some of those as soon as I get back to Mississippi.

Hey PHYTRAX... Can you do me a HUGE favor????

Can you measure the shifter shafts on the KX and the 14 to see if they are the same diameter. I have Buell pegs and the shift angle is kind of awkward. I was thinking that a shifter from a KX with a different bend may do the trick!. Just need to know if the KX shifter would fit on a 14!

If you could thanks a bunch!!!!

Not sure about the KX shifter. I'm out of town, but I'll be happy to measure it in 2 weeks when I get home.

Got him a new helmet the very next morning. He was only going about 15 mph in the back yard so I let him slide that one time, just to practice on the clutch.

The KX itself is great. I had an 80cc honda from when I was 10-16 yrs old and rode it into the ground, but boy is this a different animal. I think all brands of 450's are very similar. We looked in the comparison book and only difference was stuff like, Honda has 0.1L more fule capacity, one has 0.1" more fork travel, etc. I think the Suzuki is a 4 speed though, that was the only major difference, the rest are 5 speeds. Anyway, jumping on this thing after the 14 makes it feel like a bicycle. The weight shifting from left to right is almost nonexistent.

The power is crazy. I'm a big guy, 240 suited, and in 2nd gear I can easily get the front wheel up with just throttle, even when leaning over the handle bars and at only 15 mph or so. Can rev up to 11,000 rpm, about 47 hp, which is a LOT more than it sounds like in the dirt with a 220 lb bike. The power is great when going over a series of bumps, you just roll the throttle a little and carry the front wheel over them at will. It can be scary when landing a jump and grabbing some throttle accidentally, though. Caused me to get more air than I wanted a couple of times on the rhythm sections. .

I thought my KLR was a dirt bike but this is a whole different ball game. I actually took the KLR to the track before I bought this one and it was beating the hell out of me on landings, even on accurate landings with only a few feet of air. The weight is just too much and there is not enough suspension travel. The suspension on the KX is amazing. I've landed some pretty hard jumps, 6-8 ft up onto flat ground, and haven't bottomed it out, and I haven't even adjusted the preload for my weight yet.

Had a couple of wipeouts already with my street gear, Joe Rocket Alter Ego, and it was a lot less painful than I thought. I was going over a double the first time I wrecked. It was maybe 15 ft across, 8 ft high. I was trying to single it but hit the first jump too fast and hit the face of the 2nd hill. I bounced over the top and slid down the other side with barely a scratch. My son had a few wipeouts too. His worst was hitting a big pothole and catching the handlebars with his groin. After 5 min of agony he was eager to hop back on the bike, lol.

I guess the best part though, is being able to drive to your personal limits without having to worry about jail time. There aren't any grand prix tracks close to me and the drag strip in Gulfport is only open 1 day/week. And like I said, the lower speed means you'll walk away from most accidents unscathed and with about $3,000-$6,000 less damage to the bike.

Your wife looks amazingly familiar to me. Mainly because she could be my wifes twin. If I remember when I get home tomorrow, I'll post up a pic so you can see for yourself. Unbelievable!
