Name the 14!
Having been in business for myself for many years and having a love for marketing it recently dawned on me the other day why there is so much love and admiration for the Hayabusa. The reason is because it is not called at GSX1300R. The Suzuki marketing team was smart and created an image behind the numbers. The Hayabusa is a Japanese Falcon. A small, fast, fearless bird. What a great association. Owners could now say they had a "Busa". It was more than a bike... it was an image, a total package.
And now the ZX-14 arrives and is a faster, more advanced bike but the Kawasaki team decided to call it a ZX-14. By the way, auto executives thirty or more years ago did marketing and psycologicals tests on consumers and discovered that of all the letters in the alphabet, the two letters "Z" and "X" co notaded "speed", "excitement" and "danger" in the minds of consumers. I believe it was the Datsun (Nissan) who had the first "Z" named car in the seventies.
Did Kawasaki blow it by not giving our fine bike a name? If you were head of the marketing team... what would you call it?
Did you know that at one time our founding fathers were going to declare the "turkey" our national bird because it's fearless when attacked?
Do I get a vote for "Screaming Turkey"?

ooh, i know. how about the "spruce goose". big and ugly but wow! it does fly.
or, how about the "suppository 14" hard to take at first but when you get on it it'll scare the shite out of you.
now if i offended anyone i apologize. i've heard every name in the book about my busa and i take it all in fun as i hope all you will too. does not hurt to laugh once awhile and, yes, if a new busa wasnt being released for a couple more years mine would have a new garage mate to play with as i have grown to really like the 14 and this board. now if i could only get some harley owners to wave back that would be accomplishing something.

Definitions of Ninja:
Stealth. A feudal Japanese group of spies and assassins. (Japanese)
members.tripod.com/hungahungas/glossary.htm
(J) Used casually to describe those who practice ninjutsu, with varying degrees of humor intended. Some people consider a ninja to be literally anyone who studies the art. Others feel it describes someone who uses the art for espionage activities in any time period, and still others feel it is a strictly historical term that no longer applies to anyone alive.
www.questkagami.com/glossary.html
"Stealer in." Japanese warriors most associated but sadly stereotyped with spying, infiltration and assassination. They became legends in their time, supposedly capable of disappearing into thin air and turning into animals.
www.yorkkarate.com/Terminology/n.htm
a member of the ninja who were trained in martial arts and hired for espionage or sabotage or assassinations; a person skilled in ninjutsu
wordnet.princeton.edu/perl/webwn
In feudal Japan, ninja or shinobi (literally, "one who is concealed," or "one that endures") were sometimes assassins and agents of espionage. Ninja, like samurai, followed their own special code of conduct, called ninpō. Some modern practitioners of budo ninjutsu argue that ninja were hardly ever used as assassins, but rather for espionage. Ninja originally formed in the hills of Japan to escape brutal samurai law. ...
