tire

have anyone tried or heard of the continentil tire. if so how is it and is it a good deal at 175 price, mount, etc. the shop i went to say its better than the shinko because you can ride on it everyday and hook real nice at the track (so he say). he said the shinko hooks good at the track but its not that nice for everyday riding. thank for any feedback in advance.

Hi, There's a trillion or so opinions on tires. If you use the search function at the top of this page, you'll find a plethora of info on tires and the ZX14 in these threads

If you're looking for feedback on a specific tire, you might tell us more about the tire you are looking at. Continental makes many tires... which one are you thinking about trying?

If you're not too familiar with tires already, I'd highly suggest going back with the OEM tire as a replacement. Otherwise, you can't go wrong with a Pilot Power from Michelin.

Is it neccesary to get a tire like the bt-014 that comes on the 14 from the factory? I mean does it have to have the extra belt in it for the extra weight and power of the 14? That's why I was afraid to try a different tire other than the bridgestone.

The only two tires that manufacturers have said are "ok" on the ZX-14 are the Bridgestone BT-014 "L" OEM-spec tire that comes on the bike from the factory, and the Michelin Pilot Sport (*not* the Pilot Power).

That said, who cares? Put your favorite tire on the bike and ride it! Many people have used up multiple sets of Pilot Powers, Pilot Roads, Dunlops, Pirelli's, and others. Personally, I don't buy this "you need a special tire" crap from the OEM's unless you plan on riding your bike at top speed on a regular basis. There are plenty of riders who don't ever even see the high side of 160mph on their 14's, so it's really a moot point.

I just can't wait for the new Pilot Road 2CT to hit our shores. I used a Pilot Road for a long road trip last year and I got 6000+ miles out of it... compared to less than 3000 miles I got out of the factory 014. The 2CT version of the Pilot Road should be just the ticket for me!

MATT the 2CT is a great concept for long life in the middle tread, but my 14 spins the soft "standard" Pilot Power at speed going straight that I hate to put a harder compound on.

Again, +1 to everyone that said PP's are THE BEST !!!!

Thanks zerMATT. I'll probably get a set of Diablo's my next go around then. I really liked them on my old bike.
