ZX-14 Engine Questions
Just a few questions here, from a potential buyer:
Is the 14 very mildly tuned, in stock form, compared to the 12R? I just came back from Maxton, and the 14's ran very poorly there, even with bolt-on mods. Based on the #'s that my bike ran (12R with bolt-on's) it seemed to be more than a match for the 14's at the event.
I kind of have a theory that maybe some cams would really wake up the 14. I am not interested in the drag racing #'s, I just want to know what it takes to make a 14 really run on top. And I don't mean with Brock tuning it...

Strange...I mean if you look at guys like Smokin around here, who for the most part are all motor with minimal bolt ons, numbers are in the mid-higher 8's and I'm not aware of 12's in that range with similar mods? Your own numbers on your 12 aren't as good as some others here at similar weights on their 14's with even less mods...
What more wake upon the14 would you consider other than sprockets, pipes and tuning? Does your 12 hit 200 at Maxton? Just curious ands not meant to flame or offend you...

My bike banged the limiter at the 3/4 mile mark at 189 mph (gearing limited, with 1/4 mile left to run), with a fast rider onboard. The fastest 14 on the track ran 184, with a skilled rider onboard. All the regular guys like me were running the same 170's I was clicking off.
I am not putting the 14 down, and there may be one in my future. But being realistic, the Brock effort was highly tuned, with an expert rider.
To me the 14 seems to be an awesome drag race machine, due to torque. But with 12% more displacement and much better aero's, I was hoping to see a stronger showing at Maxton. And it seems the peak hp #'s are very similar between the two bikes, hence my thinking that the 14 is in a milder state of tune in stock condition.
Again, this is not a flame....I am just wondering what will wake the bike up for land speed racing.

Think it's more of a software limit on the 14...A Speedohealer fixes that problem.

Can someone chime in with the cam specs compared to the 12? I am looking for what I can do with minor head work, cams, compression, etc..
My 12 is great, but I will be adding something to the stable soon. It could be a 14, or another 12. My girlfriend is racing now, and she just got her 150 mph license on the 12. We need two race bikes.

A female rider on a lowered Busa with an airshifter ran 188+ at Maxton...stock pipes and all. She is about 130 lbs.

If you read the Brock ZX14 diaries he explains exactly what he did to reach 200 MPH at Maxton. All bolt-ons that anyone can do. If you buy his pipe he will include the Maxton map so your bike will be "highly tuned" . Brock did all the research and you can buy it for the price of a pipe. Mid 190's should be easy, faster depends on the conditions and rider.

I have read the brock diaries. I guess I don't feel that running MR-9, with a pro rider, and every tuning trick in the book is within my realm. Too much for for too little gain, on a bike that has to run in the 1650 class.
I am still asking for the for tuning level, stock for stock, of the 14 vs. the 12.
Furthermore, Steve, I am not saying that my 12 is all that. But if I move to a 14, I want to know what I need to do to make it 5-10% faster than what I have now. Otherwise, why bother?
So, Steve, since you know the 14...tell me what I need to do to make the 14 run faster than my 12 on the top end. Thanks.

lowered busa, airshifter, aint stock buddy, .. the guys that run maxton and the texas mile say they are allways faster at maxton .....so if she gain the 7mph (+ - ) at maxton.. the airshifter must be good for a few then......i was talking showroom stock not 1 addon or lowered ....ps at texas they had a headwind of 15 to 20 mph this March

You know what? Why is everything taken as an attack in this forum?
It's ridiculous. The 188 number of the Busa was just impressive to me. A stretched 14 with bolt-on's couldn't touch it, with a guy that went around 220 at Bonneville riding.
You guys want to take the haters attitude, fine. I will look elsewhere for the technical info that nobody here seems to know, or give, here.

Well, you can call what you want. I saw it. And the lights were dead on via my gps. Bring it to the track, and see how you compare.
I met the riders. And they are stand up people. You want to call BS on them??
It only makes you look bad.

Yeah, too bad even that couldn't get a 14 to top 184.
As far as I am concerned, this thread is done. This forum is a disgrace. I wanted some simple engine specs...and everyone wants to ream my ass.
Oh well, I'll find a better forum.
I'll tell you, you don't know those people that you are calling cheaters...and I do. It is just disgusting what you are implying.

Remember Shane..... Brock bike had a stock motor zx14 run 200mph at Maxton... So i guess a stock motor Busa could do 188mph at Maxton....BUT for you to say a zx14 couldn't touch it was shameful
