I'm a naughty speed guy

I just got a copy of my driving record, and I have 5 speeding tickets within the past 5 years on these dates: 3/6/02, 6/3/03, 7/8/03, 5/10/04, and 7/7/04. I have to get new insurance in July and I would like a company that might give me a discount for having a car & bike insured with them, and also only looks back 3 years into your driving record. I hear companies like Allstate, State Farm, and Geico all look back 5 years so almost all of my tickets would count against me. I am currently with an insurance company called, Direct FL No Fault, which is so cruddy that Gary Coleman probably wouldn't advertise for them. Does anyone have any advice for me, other than slow down (which I have already figured out), that can guide me in finding a new company?

these days to get good rate on your insurance, you have to have good driving recrord.they even give you higher rate with bad credit score, unless you go with some cruddy insurance companies and looks like you have already been there. you need to look at yellow pages in your area and keep getting quotes.

Hmm, frankly the best rates I've found anywhere are at State Farm but I just "happen" to have a clean record, lord knows what kind of pistol whippin they will give you if they think you are a risk or if they will insure you at all (I.E: the Progressive trick, if they dont want you they give you the most obscene rate quote that no sane person would ever consider, like the $3707 a year they quoted me two years ago.).

In the past I was with Dairyland (Sentry) (back in '05), back then I had a clean record and just one bike (Triumph Speed Triple) and they charged me $680 for the year...as I recall. It was just my motorcycle so I cant speak to multi-vehicle discounts if any. I also believe Liberty Mutual (my auto ins company I was with before migrating to State Farm because of the Multi-vehicle discount) offers motorcycle insurance. I dont believe they bundle it with your auto, as I understand as of 2005, their motorcycle policies are stand alone, so no discounts like State Farm offered me, they were also a bit higher than State Farm also, I think I was quoted $530 per year (2006). I paid $460 for my first year with State Farm, it has since dropped to $342 (2007), my zx-14 is $364 for the year. State farm it seems primarily goes by engine displacement, not totally because when I asked for a quote for the Ducati Sport Classic 1000, they quoted me something like $700 as I recall.

I cant state that I have any idea how far back in your history they check though.

Hope it helps securing something reasonable/tolerable..

I don't know how you guys do it; riding a bike like the 14 and not get any speeding tickets. All I know is that here in West Palm Beach if you are not within 10mph of the speed limit and you pass a cop then you might as well just pull yourself over.

You have too practice being more aware of the pick-pockets out there. If they hide in the weeds, along the road, the cowardly bastards got ya. To be passin' em, and getting fined, well, there's much room for inprovement there....
I get the occasional bullshit ticket, too. The world is a safer place, every time they bone me for 10 over out in da boonies..

Invest in a good bird dog (Radar Detector) and lie about your past and hope they don't find out...and you don't need them to process a claim.

I agree. I'm just waiting for it to be my turn to get one. I need to slow down, but it's hard to do that on this thing. I remember what a friend asked me, that I let ride my 14. He said "is it even possible to go slow on that bike?" All I could do was laugh.

Just letting you all know that I am going to get an Escort Passport 8500 x50 in hopes that the ol' heavy hand can get warned a time or two before another ticket is added to my library's repertoire.

I was a cop for seven years. I didn't know people actually stopped for the police when riding a bike......lol.

If your gonna get a radar detector, may I suggest the Valentine One? It's the best one that I, or my friends have ever come across. AWESOME!!! Expensive, but worth it.
