installing dogbones
I think I'm fixing to get me the lowering kit for my black beauty. I've got a question. How do you install and adjust the dogbones? Looks like to me when you remove the bolts in the dogbones, the bike will just drop down. How are you supposed to support the thing up to reinstall the bolts? Bike stands won't work because it lifts at the swingarm.

Put a jack under the engine or build a wood cradle that is tall enough to slide a bar (side to side) under the subframe. #3 A real strong friend to just hold it. lol

When installing make sure that there is clearance between the shock spring and the new bones.
The stock bones are curved to allow fof the difference in distance between front and rear mounting points.
Be careful to ensure the links are both the same length if using adjustable type links.

Ok, so like can I put the bike up on the stands (front and rear) then place a jack under the engine, then remove the stock dogbones and then let it down enough to get the lowering dogbones bolted up?

I hung mine by the large holes in the subframe with straps, wrapped rags in the hooks to protect the finnish, and hung her from the ceiling joists.
If you buy the threaded adjustable ones, you can tune the rear to match the front , keeping the geometry same as stock if you wish.
The threaded ones can be adjusted without having to support the bike once installed.

When I took my adjustables off my 12R to fix one I put it up on the rear wheelstand and use a small floor jack between the tire and the undertail. I adjusted it so that it took the pressure off the dogbone bolts and then slid them right out. Keep in mind as you lower the bike the length of the link increases, not decreases...

I used ratchet ties from the top yoke to shackles either side in my garage wall, this steadied the bike while I jacked it up under the engine and that made it an easy one-man job.
The small fairing under the bike, just ahead of the rear wheel has an aluminium sub-frame which I had to remove to get the top bolt out. I shaved a small amount from this frame with a Dremel to get clearance for the adjustable dogbones. Otherwise it's a fairly easy job.

If you or a neighbor have an engine hoist, it works well. It allows for very small changes up or down to get the height just right. I take the seat off and at the very rear of the subframe there is a place you can thread a tie down through. After you do it a few times you can do it by yourself in just a few minutes. Hey just a quick little story, if you are going to drop the front at the fork tubes there are no hidden bolts. I was lowering my 12 in the front and loosened all the bolts and nothing happened. I let go of the handlebars to find the bolts that I thought I must have missed and about that time gravity took over and the bike slammed down onto the carbon front fender that I had just put on. Somedays, I really think I have no business even owning wrenches.
