Sticks: do you have an opinion of the 2CTs? I am running them now but don't have the nerve to take them to the edge even though they are supposed to be just a step below the pilot race. i have between 1/2 and 3/4 at my best.

I've been real happy with the 2CTs over regular street Pilot Powers.
I use Pilot Race (medium compound on FL tracks) on a track bike, 2CTs on the street.
and don't hesitate to hang that knee low and drag the puck with the 2CTs!

quote: Steve, I'll take you up on that contest between your track bike 600RR and my 14 in the braking department. You keep throwing that shit out there that you have to brake sooner on the 14 but you're wrong. Thats only becuase you are going so much faster on the 14 so of course you start braking sooner. You put a 14 side by side with your (or any) 600, and the 14 will beat it - as long as your front tire keeps traction. The extra length and lower center of gravity of the 14 enables it to apply the weight better to the forks, keeping it from endoing. Any of you guys live in the Seattle area and want to find out, bring your 600 or newer 1000 (same basic weight and ergo's nowadays) and I'll show you. If you manage to stop faster then I'll eat that crow right friggin here on this post. Challengers?
And I'll repost that pic of my stock tire, because YES you can easily run it to the edge. Not sure this is working, my firewall is blocking Facebook for some damn reason

Holly hell Sticks your a big bastard, Oh and i also agree with your post ! I do find my 14 slightly less flickable than my GSXR1000 but it's a hell-of alot user friendly for street riding. The only adavantage i see and feel in the GSXR is. If there is a series of very tight turns in a row the 14 is a little tougher to transition. And if your running to the edge of your tire, being a big dude than that should answer this guys question. Who made your leathers ? Omar the tent maker ! LOL !

dude I had a ZX14 AND a 600RR, if you don't think that heavier 14 requires more distance to stop from the same speed, keep tooting on the crack pipe.
not only did i have both bikes and know, it doesn't take a mathetician to know with the same amount of rubber contact on the pavement the most weight requires further stopping distance.
dude that debate is a joke, especially after owning both bikes and knowing the braking of each.

nevermind, you're right. the 14 stops in less distance than tiny bikes (I can't be a part of such a debate!) :P

Yeah steve, I had a hair up my ass about that braking issue. BUT from high speed I still believe that a 14 can bring its heavy ass down to legal speeds faster than a short wheel base high center of gravity supersport bike.
Did a couple tests against my friend on his 600 Katana with braided lines/ HH pads. From 60 mph to 0, I bested him 1 time, he beat me 1 time, and a aprx. tie on third. All three times I was able to get harder on the brakes initially than he could (we had to rerun two of the runs because he skidded on initial grab). Every time when we got down to below ?30mph? he was able to come to a quick stoppie inducing stop while I couldnt match him, stoppie or not. I was able to use light rear brakes during most of the stop, whereas if he did anything but decel he locked the rear up- not that it mattered, his rear was hovering in the air half the time anyways.
Didn't get a chance to do what I really wanted to do: a 120mph to 40mph or so. THATS the kind of braking you use when approaching a corner from a straight.
I'm running Pilot Power 2CT's, he's got some shitty Metzler that I forgot the name of.
As far as the 2CT's, I've been very happy so far. There grip is phenomenal, truly in a different world from the stockers. No overheating when pushed hard for a few miles, which is too be expected from a Pilot Race compound (on the sides) being used aggressively on the street. Bike turn in is better, but different than the 014's. Put that onto the unique contour of the tire, same unusual feeling I felt on my TL1000R when I changed from D208's to Pilot Powers.
Speaking of the D208's, the base Pilot Power's didnt seem to have the traction of the 208's, but more than made up for it with superb feel while on the edge. The 2CT's trade some feel on the edge for IMO even better traction than those old favorites of mine, the 208's. Guess those Dunlop's are now consigned to the lists of tires that "used to be my favorites"...
I've had the 2CT's step out once on me, a gravel induced small front tire slide. When they regrabbed it was with a jolt, enough to turn the tires direction a few degrees along with a kinda flat-tire feel as the sidewalls re assumed there position. I've felt worse, so at least I now know what to expect. However, my friends 636 started showing some serious fraying around the compound joining area on his tires, where the compound edges were becoming seperated after he did a 400 mile fast run through the mountains. No issues for me yet.

I went from the stock 014's to Diablo SuperCorsa's and now back to the plain jane Pilot Powers. One hell of a difference going from stock to the Diablo's. Not as much difference going to the Pilot Powers from the Diablo's. As far as bite is concerned I can't tell a differnce. The only differences I've noticed between the two is the transitioning from left to right because the Diablo was a 190/55 and the Powers are a 190/50 and the Powers are about 200 a set cheaper.

quote: Greetings,
I've owned a ZX12R since the first year they were produced (2000). I'm now thinking of moving to the ZX14 and selling the 12. The one lingering question I have is about cornering clearance. I'm a big boy and I like to get low. The "chicken strips" on my 12 are very small. From those of you who may have had 12's before, or anyone else who cares to chime in, how much will I give up in the area of cornering clearance by moving from the 12 to the 14? Thanks in advance for the input.
Malcolm
I'm 6'2 300 lbs and within the first 100 miles of having my Pilot Powers on new I had less than 1/16th of an inch chicken strip left.

One must enter turns hot and rely on the front brakes! If you can downshift and still slow the bike down you went into the turn slower than an old couple has sex. Put steel braided lines on your 14, (also I put HH pads on mine). HUGE difference

I think some have never rode a bike to make suggestions such as brake with the rear wheel before turns. That theory will get one killed on a bicycle.

track and possible street /evasive manuevers are two different things and call for different techniques. you might use the front and back brake hard to square the turn off off then throttle to change direction to come out of it. kind of like a berm shot. not for the inexperienced......if you mess up its a high side. you gotta gas it hard to come out of it.
