Imo you can't say starting with a smaller bike is bs. A bigger, heavier bike with more power will get you in over your head a hell of a lot faster than say a 600. Yea sure, you can die on a 600 too, or any bike for that matter, but that doesn't mean that the chances of killing yourself don't increase with the bigger, heavier, more powerful bike. You can attain higher speeds before you realize how fast you are going, and then you have to deal with trying to control the weight and the size of the bike after you are already in over your head. Countless new riders of all ages that were smart people and had no intention of doing something stupid are now dead because they didn't know what they were getting into. I know, because some of them were friends of mine. I can't count how many people I have known or heard of that were killed because they just didn't get it. People who are used to the power, size, and weight of the busa or 14 tend to forget what a bike feels like to a beginner. You can't tell me the 14's secondary throttle blades limit the 14 to 600 like acceleration. Yes, it's smooth, but have you compared, say 0-100mph times. These bikes are not for beginners. I think if you did some research, you would find that the 600cc bikes have a worse track record because there are a lot more of them out there, and more people start out on them.

All that being said, I think the 14 is the best all around bike there is. The 1000's are all too uncomfortable. They are great bikes, but they are more purpose built. The busa is just plain dated. A great bike, but getting old. And then there is the 14. More comfortable, quicker, and faster than the other bikes, and feels a lot lighter cornering than the busa. If you want the best all around, good at everything bike, the 14 is the one.

Nemesis, whereabouts in Australia are you located? They allow test rides with dealers here in Brisbane...both Suzi and Kwaka. Let me know if you're in this area and I'll even take you there. Then you can make YOUR decision.

I talked to a local salesman recently who sold the Busa and the 14. I asked him how he qualifies someone before selling them either bike. He told me about a 19 year old that came in the store several months earlier and wanted to buy a Busa. After some lengthy discussion on riding experience the salesman shook his head and said "I'm sorry". The kid left the store in a huff.
Several weeks later there was a big bike crash not a quarter mile from the dealership. The biker had hit a divider in the highway going super fast and died immediately. Well, we know who that driver was-- the same kid that he had turned down weeks earlier. He had gone to another town and bought a Busa from another dealership.

Nemesis I'd recommend something smaller and work your way up.

I know where your coming from, but like all of us,(i think) we all end up moving to
a bigger bike sooner or later, and im over 600's,i dont want to get one, then get used to
it then like half a year later im allready trading this thing in...
Im not like half these messes in my area they think they have to wheelie 3kilometres
to show people they can ride,im not into that crap,i just love riding cuz theres nothing like it,no matter whats going on in my life, when im riding,it just all goes away, sounds queer i know but its the truth.

I use to own a 06 gixxer 1000! Don't get me wrong, It is a great bike for certain things but since I have owned a zx14, The gixxer doesn't come close. I mean I have a few mods on her and have come up against guys on 1000 with thousand of dollars in the bike and I run away from them. I am 23yrs old as well, weighing only 130llbs and can do whatever I please on this bike. Now I also ride another guys hayabusa for him with a 1397 kit, automatic air shifter, stretched, lowered, nitrous etc. My bike has a very small dry shot, strtched, flys removed and a map and I am stronger than him by far. I have also surprised the guys in the turns with her stretched running with the litres and the 600. Before she was stretched, I could stand her up and walk wherever. So i have to say the 14 is the best all around bike as well as drag bike.

TRUST US! WE DONT WANT YOU TO GET A BIKE BIGGER THAN YOUR SKILL! WE DO NOT WANT YOU TO DIE DUDE! WE KNOW! WE HAVE SEEN IT SO MUCH!!! We dont say the things we do cause were assholes, but because Ive seen too much guts, spilled blood, protruding broken hips and ribs, road rash, impalements, curbings, etc, in person.

Ever see the look in someone's eyes when you see their spilled guts, knowing they're going to die?

Please think about it.

Mike,i know what you mean,i went to phillip island for moto gp
And thousands of bikes go,came up to this roundabout with blood all over the road an
saw this guy getting put into a body bag...
But all the bikers that saw it just keep riding on....
You cant let things like that stop you, sure you think about it,but i beleive if
you respect your machine, and dont push it past your capabilties,it shouldnt bite you back...

Heya Nemesis, I do try to get to the shootouts and tnt's as much as I can. I'm camera shy (cameras blow up) so the guy at the fullboost site must be Cheech...another guy here in Brissy. You can see more pics at the dragbike-media.com.au site. I must say that Australia is still Busa country but are getting annoyed by the fact that a stock ZX with a somewhat, fairly inexperienced drag rider (me) is showing them up. A couple of guys here are already going really fast on them 14s. I'm sure that there'll be more converts in the coming year.

Just make the most suitable choice for yourself (whatever bike it may be) and always want to ride again tomorrow.

Cool!
Il check out the pics!
Yeh thats why i also steer towards the busa, much more aftermarket support here, but hopefully that will change and be the same for the zx
How fast are you going with what mods?
And did you race it stock?

Essentially stock...flies out of course w/PC. Just using slip ons and I change it back to stock cans during weekdays when I ride to work. First time ever on the strip - 10.6 ET....second time around - 10.06 ET.......getting there

It's all about seat time and getting the skills up. I'll lower the beast next time and see if I'm up to it. I'd read more in this forum if I were you...get a lot of tips, info and it's pretty entertaining too.

To the men on 14's....are there places in the US of A where they hire out the 14s? I'm visiting my family (they abandoned me and I found my way to Australia) in LA....West Covina to be exact and I'd love to hire one and ride to Vegas or anywhere...and maybe meet the guys in the ZX forum too.

Nemesis, buy what feels comfortable that way you won't mind riding it everyday. Looks are fine untill they begin to hurt. You can always customize it to fit your taste. Only you have to live with your decision.

Be smart and safe. Ride forever.

If you have a lot of technical twisties in Austrailian like California and you need to prove to yourself you have the RIGHT stuff, get the K7.

If you have a bunch of flat point and shoots, like Texas get a ZX14!

Or if your body is old and brittle and fucked up, get a ZX14, it's like a big hospital stretcher with IV s for biker has-beens !

I have been on the new GSXR1000 and I have the 14. I picked the 14 because if I want to go anything over 200 miles say it is the most comfortable all around. I like the GSXR1000 for riding around town but the 14 can do that tooeasily. Your choice but given price I would buy the bigger bike (in fact I did). The Hayabusa was not even in the running but only because the new one is just around the corner and given the capabilities of the GSXR1000 it should be a significant difference than the Hayabusa you can buy today. If I had to buy used it is a whole different story.

I too wanted to be on the fast track and get what I want.....NOW. What I wanted was a Vmax........perfect first bike to die on. Lucky for me I did not get to riding bikes until 35yrs old and I got an old used 600 and learned a bit. I still bought that Vmax and was VERY careful which means I learned very slowly. I got an EX250 and learned how to actually ride....and got damn good w/ a lot of practice.....over 100mi per day avg for months. I then bought a used FZR600 and learned A LOT more from that bike.........about 4000 miles of mostly riding w/ the intention of learning what I was doing. STILL.......I dropped both the Vmax and FZR once. I was learning as much as I could and practicing all I could, but.......there is no fast track. Some are a natural for it (I still believe I am and woulda been a lot worse off if not) and some are not......they take a very long time to learn - and even longer on the wrong bikes. After being honest w/ myself I knew that I had indeed learned enough from the 4 bikes to get what I really wanted.......brand new R1. I had learned the skills and gained the confidence to ride a REAL bike. It took only a couple years to do it and I found that I was probably still only just at or below avg when I jumped on my new litre bike. I rode it until it was stolen and then got a 14. We are diff and have a diff learning curve and abilities........

I say the 14 is the best choice for all-around riding, but if you truly are not ready......it is freakin' dangerous - even stock. A used litre bike that is about 7yrs old will be good enough to teach you what you need to know and not cost too much.

I've put over 10Kmi on my 14 and lowsided it b/c I got to where I could drag the pegs and fairing at will.............and one mistake costs me bucks and pain. If Ihad been on the R1 it would have cleared that turn, but...............so even if you know what you are doing......better be damn sure the bike cando what you plan trying.......

That's my 3 cents......

Yes, without doubt get a ZX14 if you're a Beluga Whale, maybe one under each flipper might be a good idea.

Shit at 320lbs, maybe a flatbed truck, or some twisties at a local railroad yard pulled by a locomotive.

Anyhows, the next hayabusa im pretty sure is going to be the B king which has a detuned version of the hayabusa motor so im not going to wait for that..
Unless anyone has heard otherwise that theyre going to bring out a proper sportsbike version, not some fat naked thing...

-Hey blueford, nah mostly straight like stuff where i am,sure theres the occasional back streets but yeh mostly straight line...

-Thanks ninja14,yeh i know what you mean...Im sorry to hear the r1 got stolen though, theres nothing i hate more than some scumbags taking someones pride and joy...
