Do it yourself.
Oil, Oil filter,
Tighten bolts and screws,
Check fluids.
Check brake pads.
Adjust chain

20-50 bucks depending on oil used

Yeah, I read in my service manual, the first scheduled valve adjustment is at 15,000 miles. I'll probably be doing that myslef when the time comes. I did my old bike and it wasn't that bad, just alot of measuring with double and triple checking. Very satisfying though.

Hey, I did it myself and I'm a doc. By I do like fixing things.. At least when something happens on the road you will know what it is and perhaps even know how to fix it!

I asked a similar question not too long ago and i asked the dealer what was involved in the 600 mile service and he called out a lot of checks and the only work I heard was change the oil and filter he did say something that sparked my curiosity, something about checking the fuel inj. If the bike starts and runs the fuel sys is good besides a brand new bike what can be wrong with these lovelies, oh and he said to check all the emission and fuel hoses.

Mine cost me $80. It was done in 2 hours, and they did the sensor check at the same time. I told them I had already done it and no need for them to, they said they had to check it anyway.
