rear tire price
I priced a rear tire the other day and they told me about $200 mounted and balanced if I take off the wheel nd brought it to them. It would be a factory replacement, the bt-014 with the extra belt in it. This sound like a good deal? I thought it was decent.

Sounds like a good price for the Bridgestone. Personally I'd go with the Michelin PP CT2 if you want performance or the Pirelli Diablo Strada if you want a good sport touring tire. The Strada is much cheaper than the Bridgestone and probably handles as well.

Don't believe the Strada is rated for the 14's TQ and weight......but it will probably stay on the wheel :-)

The only reason I priced a factory replacement was for that reason, the extra belt in the tire. If I go with a different tire, I'll want to get the front as well, just to keep the treads the same. I'll probably go with the bridgestone this time and then go with something different on the front and back when it wears out again.

The price you got was good, my dealer wanted $260 for the tire alone w/ $50 for install. I ended up getting one from motorcycle Accessory Warehouse (MAW) for $165 shipped, then took the tire off and had it installed at a local shop (non dealer) for $20.

I got a steal on these, and for some reason my 14 eats rear tires so I buy 2 for every front

Yeah, I've only got about 1500 miles on mine and it's getting slick in the middle. I 've only done a couple burnouts. Nothing real smoky, just trying it out.

How dangerous is this really? I'd like to save a few bucks and some work but not if it's going to kill me.
As far as the Michelin PP CT2, expect about half the mileage of the stock tires at best, probably less.
Oh ya, local dealer just went up to $95 to mount and balance if you get the tire from someone else, can you say OMFG!!

GEEZ that is high. I have a local shop that does great work and hasn't scratched anything - 10 bux a tire if I bring in the rims, 20 bucks a tire if I bring in the bike.
And the balance job has been proven to be great for as fast as my 14 and track bike will go
Those prices make it economical to buy the equipment and do it yerself... topic for another thread though

I just installed a set of the Pirelli Diablo "Strata's" yesterday. Paid 115.96 and 154.44 respectively. I've only put about 100 miles on them so far, but so far so good!!! My stock tires were so far gone I couldn't give an accurate comparison. It just rides like a brand new bike again.

Yeah, I noticed the front is wearing almost as much as the rear as far as the side bites. I might be getting a front with the rear this time. I guess the extra weight and power really chews the things up. But those bt-014 are soft anyways. I'd love to get some diablos. I ran like two sets on my old bike and I loved them.
