14 has heavy wheels

Was Checking out mounting a ZX14 wheel on the rear of my bike. Man are they heavy. 38lbs 10oz. The rotor alone weighs almost 3 lbs. For compairason a ZX10 wheel weighs 33lbs 6oz and my ZX9 wheel with aluminum sprocket weighs 34lbs 5oz.

I'm thinking they could be lighter, also that they are probably that heavy for strength ?
Big heavy bike, Lots of HP/ torque = need strong wheels

Yeah, I'd say alot of the weight on the 14 is because of beefier components for strength.

A 3lb rotor is needed for strength? A light rotor, aluminum sprocket and Ti hardware and you could drop almost 4 lbs off the rear alone. There is a lot of extra metal on those wheels that could be removed without compromising strengh. I think it's just another thing Kawi did to detune the bike. If the Super Busa ever does become a realitly, they just need to lighten a few things up and uncork it a little and their back on top.

I think the added cost for almost 4 lbs isn't worth it off the showroom floor. JMHO :-/

I think I'd rather have the heavier wheels than to have reliability issues of the earlier zx-10's.

Yup, we talked about this a few times.....heavy doesn't always mean strong. the wheels are probaly the next big weight savings next too exhaust. Think about some CF wheels and a lighter tire......

Full wheel with stock tire. The ZX10 was also full wheel with stock tire.
