Lower Fairing rip off
I'm riding Saturday to my deal, because I was missing a bolt on my tank. I was thinking the bike being less than a year old they would replace it. Headed up 75, and I fell something hitting my leg. I look down, and my mid-fairing is ripped in half, flapping in the wind. I pull off to the side of the road. The bottom two bolts on my lower fairing is gone, and so is my lower fairing. Has anyone had to replace bolts on there bike, and do you think Kaw will replace my fairing. I did go to the dealer a month after I got the bike to have them to replace the bottom bolt on the lower fairing.

....it might be a good idea to do a slow walk-around of this potent machine while its warming up or you're re-donning your gear...well, maybe not every single time you start it up, but at least once or twice a day depending on usage.....what, can't be bothered with such sillyness?...well alrighty then...I will state the obvious: This is one of the most potent land missles almost anyone can buy and ride...you and the bike deserve a little more prep than just turning the key and hitting the start button....good luck with your claim with Kawasaki

Have you done ANY mods to your bike? If you have, I suspect you are on your own. BUT, if you haven't, and your dealer has done all your servicing, you may have a very good argument.

I have to admit, I should have done a better walk around on my bike before I took off on it. When you think about it, these things are shipped from Kaw with some assem. required. Many dealerships farm this task out to companies who pay their people as little as possible. I would certainly think as long as you have not had your fairings off you would be able to get the dealer to pay, but if you have been into the bike at all thay are going to try to beat you down and get more money out of you. It sucks but lessons learned, after all how many of us actually bent down and checked the sight glass to ensure the bike even had oil in it?

When I took my bike apart for the PC and pipe swap, every screw on my plastic was loose. Even the header bolts on the exhaust were barely finger tight. I kept thinking that I was glad I did the swap because i found so many things loose. Now, if the nut on my front sprocket would just cooperate!

I find it hard to believe that KMC would be responsible for this... you need to maintain your bike... it's kinda up to you IMHO!

I lost two bolts within the first 200 miles. Then started tightnening them. Just got off the phone with a guy at Ron Ayers (checking on my order) and he said someone just ordered some parts, I think he said lower cowling, don't quote me on the parts. But he said the guy said he was doing 202 mph when the part or parts came off!!! Find it hard to believe "202" but I wouldn't want anything coming off at any high rate of speed.

After breakin on my bike I went riding "with those other guys" (some busa's) and I took mine to top speed. So I know it wouldn't take too much to get to the 202 mark but the whole bike falling apart and 202 thing it is hard to believe.

I THINK EVERYONE SHOULD BE AWARE THAT MOTORCYCLES VIBRATE, AND PARTS CAN FALL OFF.
yes, I noticed some bolts on the lowers were loose when goin over the bike.
Everytime I lube the chain and check my tire pressures, I go over the bolts,
.... I have found the lower faing bolts do come loose before any others.....
You do check air pressure and lube your chain I hope?
As a general rule, I check air pressures manually before every ride (squeeze tire and make sure it seems good),
Check air pressure with a guage and adjust every weekend.
Check and lube chain every weekend, or 500 miles whichever comes first.
Change oil and oil filter every 2000 miles after initial break in maintenance, along with a new rear tire. (Thats all mine last.)
Clean air filter every second oil change.
Change spark plugs every 5th oil change (10K as per manual)
New wheel brgs, every spring whether it needs em or not...
I have seen what seized wheels brgs do ..... its really ugly !
Its a high performance machine.
If your maintenance schedule looks like the one on your neighbors caprice YOU WILL HAVE TROUBLE!!!!
Yes I wring the nutz out of her, and ride it like its stolen when the road is empty!!
Thats why I bought it, not to putz around on !!!!!!!!
But I am in tune with my bike, maintain it, and know its safe!!

I had lost a couple of fairing bolts early on with the bike, but I check them at regular intervals now. It only takes a couple of minutes. I carry a few spare faring bolts of the various sizes in my tool kit now as well.
There are many things you can't control while out riding, basic maintenance is something you can control and need to stay on top of.
I was amazed how many riders I saw last year at the local coffee hangouts that had cords showing on their rear tires..............mostly younger riders.

I overheard an old-timer trying to convince a kid why his R1 won't handle and corner as well when the tire is so worn flat belts are showing in the middle...and the kid just wanted to argue and justify that tire. So proud he burned it to the belts...

A friend of mine has a 'busa about there, and my ZX14 is about there needing new pilot powers. We're gonna' have some wild pics of the bikes burning out together in the day, then a night burnout with car headlights showing through the smoke. That'll be our squidly fun before the tire replacement.
Here's a prior replacement burn on a "days gone by" bike hehehe
