fuel range I got my 14 back in July here in the uk and have just done the normal running in thing since.
I ve always had a poilicy of running in my bikes over quite a long period. not pussying around but not thrashing the arse off it but now its time to get things on a bit.
Having had two zx12s prior to the 14 I did the usual mods to them pc exhaust etc.
all I wanted to know was how much removing the flies and adding a pc3 to the 14 effected the fuel consumption just riding the thing normally ie in touring mode. I go regularly to southern europe and found it a bit tedious filling up every 130 miles on the 12s. Is the 14 much better? I suppose I just want the best of both worlds.a bike that goes like stink but one that can be good on fuel also.(I just need to be sure I can still see off all my mates on r1s and Gsxr thou s whilst i am two up!!!!!!!!)

I don't think removing the secondary butterflies has made much difference at all to my bikes fuel consumption. With the 'flies "out" you only use as much throttle as you need and the response is instant but with them "in" you can be sitting there with way too much throttle just waiting for the damn things to open up - would that waste fuel? The biggest restriction is apparently in the lower gears too so it wouldn't make a huge difference to touring consumption either way.
The range meter on my bike usually shows 160 miles or more on a full tank, It ought to go further than a ZX-12R.

Gotta disagree. The 14 with a PC map and flies operates in a correct A/F ratio...for performance. I lost about 3 mpg going from stock to flies out with PC and slipons. Get this - my mileage was actually *up* from stock by 2 mpg when I had only the PC and the slipons on the bike. Does it really matter to me? No, I love the bike with the flies out!

Running 10% lean below 40% throttle helped my mileage some with no performance loss. You should get close to 200 miles out of a tank if riding easy, 150-160 if you ride fairly hard. Stay in 6th gear if you need more range, which is MUCH easier to do with the flies out.

+1
I lost fuel mileage with a Brock's Gen3 and PClll mapped.
And the "does it really matter to me"
+1 its a superbike - enjoy optimal performance and leave the fuel mileage and tire longetivity topic to the sport touring crowd willing to sacrifice performance - they just don't need/use it
