Another close call

while riding my oil pan hit a rise in the pavement on the highway at 120mph. my oil light flashed on for a moment then went off. 20miles after that at 80mph. I was going to pull over at the nearest gas station to check the oil. Would have done it when it flashed but wasnt close enough to a gas station. Anyway at 80 the bike starts reving oddly. I let go of the throttle and all of a sudden the back wheel starts sliding as if it was locked. I was telling myself all i had to due was keep it straight. The back end was drifting back and forth. It was a trip because everything slowed down as it happened. After sliding about 3 blocks i heard a rattling from the motor. I pulled the clutch in and shut it off as i rolled to a stop. Got off the bike and had oil all over the back tire. i thought i knocked a hole in the pan. Turns out the drain plug was gone and the plastic fairing that covers it was chiped and broken. It pulled all the threads out. I think when it the pavement it must have flexed the pan jaring the plug loose. What i didnt understand was why my oil pressure light didnt stay on. Well i was able to get it in and out of gear. So i started checking on different parts like the bearings and higher comp pistons. If i had to go in the motor i would change a few things. I put oil and the lucas oil stabalizer in it again. I tried starting the bike. It would turn over and back fire from time to time but not start. Finally it started to run. After 3minutes the bike would cut off again. The clutch was making alot of noise. So i charged the battary and took the clutch aloose and oiled all the friction and steel plates. Once back together bike started and ran better with no problems. I did hear a ticking sound but it sound like the throttle body. The sound was loud when the bike was on choke and quieted down once it warm up. I dont know if the throttle body makes noise like this. Ive started it up several times since. I havent riding it yet. Im sure not having oil wounded the engine some. What i dont know is if its worth me replacing bearings. If this is the case i would definitly get the je pistons and get the head ported with the custom cams. On carpenters site hes making 210-215hp with out changing the pistons. Just head porting and cam swaps and of course racing gas. Looks like i missed a bullet this time. I

don't count your chickens yet.... i would get the bike to a dyno for a runnin LOW TO HIGHER RPM'S UNDER LOAD .... if you hear anything on the dyno SHUT IT DOWN ... Start a engine rebuild.... the last thing you want is throw a rod on the highway ...or you be repeating the long slow tire slide all over again.... i did this before and it throwed a rod later ...

Yeah I had this close to tje same thing happening to me but it was from me wheeling and bottoming out on the strip. Took a curve and all of a sudden the back tire and the front tire were battling for the forward position! finally straightened her up and had the wife come and get me with the trailor. I think I was more lucky than you though, I shut it down as soon as it started sliding. Kind of had a feeling what had happened. Once the bike was parked. I think I had about 3 quarts of oil on the ground. had I known it still had this much, I would have just plugged it and eased to a gas station or something. Being stuck in a blind curve is no laughing matter!

Yeah, they should have put the drainplug running horizontally instead of vertically. It hangs down too much. If you deside to rebuild it, maybe you can find an aftermarket oilpan with the plug relocated.
