Not sure what your experience is but....
I would not suggest either for a rider with limited experience.
At any rate the 14 is designed for drag racing, lower center of gravity, forward biased weight placement, and much easier to launch IMO. Less wheelie prone.
Lower 1st gear, also helps it, and makes it easier to launch than the 10.
That said the 10 has the power to weight advantage, being almost 100 lbs lighter.
Mild mods, like pipe, pc3, and lower gearing turn the 14 into an animal, and fixes the power to weight.
I love my 14!!

At your size if your a helluva rider a ZX10 would be the best bet because you would give bigger bikes hell in the quarter mile stk wheelbase or extended. However, the ZX14 is a helluva bike also. It might be a wee bit large for you but it will get the job done, 8second passes for sure at your size. You should go to the brocksperformance site and pull up the diary with Keith Dennis (Shine) riding the ZX14. Thats probably what you would look like riding in 14. Hell I think he bigger than you. Wow..
If your a beginner I would find something less expensize and with less hp to abuse. I personally believe that learning to drag race on something thats smaller and with less hp will make you a better rider. Expectations are way up there when your riding the baddest bikes on the market. I would hate for you to be disappointed in your times while learning to drag race the ZX14.
With all that said, if you just want something that'll put you in the 9second zone right away. Go with the 14.
I love my 14 also.

I'm wanting it to be my first project bike and i would rather be the best that i can be and i know that i have to practice hard to achieve that and i would love to ride with some of you guys one day. Yall are a hella of a riders!!!

When I said smaller bike I meant something lesser than the ZX10 and ZX14. Both of those bikes have serious power especially after mods. The ZX10 will be more of a challenge to ride due to shorter wheelbase. I would go find an old GSXR1100, ZX9, or 750 to take some time and learn how to drag race. Get comfortable with something like that, then move on to a bike like the 10 or 14. However, if your dead set on getting one of the two bikes (ZX10 or ZX14) get the ZX14, that way you wont have to spend money twice.
Best of luck.

The ZX-14 is going to be easier to ride for most people than a ZX-10. It won't wheelie as easily as the ZX-10, expecially with the flies in. Get a good feel for it before you pull the flies and do any performance upgrades. You could even do like me and go up a tooth on the front sprocket, maybe 2 teeth if you want to tame it even more. Then you can change the sprockets back later on if you want something a little more frightening to ride.
Anybody can can ride any size bike if you know how to ride a motorcycle in general. The key is to have a LOT of respect for a bike with this much power until you're very experienced. I can't ride my 14 like some of these guys but when I have room to play with all that power safely, it's a feeling like nothing else. My buddy has VERY limited riding experience and rode my GSX-R1000, which is geard very low, just fine. He just had to drive it like a 100 yr old grandma for a few days to get a feel for it.
Your height might fit the ZX-10 better, though, and the weight might be easier for you to handle. If you've ridden for 2 years you should be able to keep the rubber side down on a 14 though. Just be very careful during low speed manuvers (i.e. in your driveway) if you want to keep the paint shiny.

i really want to say thank you for your opinions though, i'm very dead set on getting me one of the two bikes. As soon as i got one of the two bikes though, i was going to put a 8 over swingarm on it so that it doesn't jump up and lower the from prolly 1 1/2 to 2" and 2" in the rear. So, with that being said do you think that it would be more suitable for me reguardless of spending the money once of twice. I'm being hardheaded i know, i just want one of those two bikes and i want it to be my first project bike for the street and the strip. i know that both of the bikes with mods are going to be beasts, but i don't want a beast that would just totally tear a hole in my butt lol, but your comments are really great and i really appreciate them alot aswell. thank you guys. So, with all of this being said, how should i or how would you decide on the bike that would be best for you if you were in my shoes and i wanted the choice of those two bikes no matter what?

If you're planning on extending and lowering the bike, I don't see how you could choose anything except the ZX-14. Like I said, just be extremely careful and patient learning how to ride the bike before you do any performance upgrades. And, leaving the flies in for a while will make the transition to a larger bike easier than on the ZX-10. Also, with an 8" swingarm extension your handling is going to suck so don't try to impress anyone in the twisties.

rgr that, thanks for the advice phytrax, that's one of the first two mods that I was going to do to my bike, was lower it and order an 8" over from trac dynamics. I'm thinkin about just getting the zx10 for my first project so that i can in the end use it for the street and then purchase the 14 a few years later and just use it as my drag bike and prolly by street bikes aswell lol, i'll just hustle both ends, busas and the 1000's so that they will no matter what get beat, but thank you alot for the advice. How much does a used 14 run compared to the zx10 because that will also have a factor on which i also decide to buy. thanks again

thanks big, i'm just ready to get home so that i can purchase my new zx 10 or 14 and just be able to ride. it's really awesome to know that there are still ppl out there for us rather than alot of the ppl i hear out there doubting us. I hear that alot when i'm walking around in civilian clothing upon how they don't support us or our gov. I mean lol our gov does suck at times, but no matter there is always going to be a leader that makes his decisions and there are going to be alot of ppl that don't and do like it. It's just how things work. but thanks again for all the support here and on zx-14.com. I love the articles that i read everynight.

Anybody bad mouthing our soldiers is a MORON. You guys get crappy pay for jobs that are often even crappier. Good job to all of you. Our country will always have it's problems and we need people to fight in the military and in the government to make it better. Anybody that doesn't like it can leave or help fix it. Either way I don't see how you can blame our soldiers. It's not your fault if someone happens to give you the wrong job sometimes. You guys do your job and almost always do it well.
