No I'm not trolling, but I'm obviously out of touch with everyone else's reality.
I think, although who knows....this is my last post on this subject, but just for the record:
- Safety IS important to me.
- No I don't want ABS because I lack confidence in my own ability.
- I have ridden bikes all my life since I was twelve.
- Currently own more bikes than my wife approves of.
- The ST is to replace my Blackbird which has done sterling service for eight years.
- Yes I can ride a bike.
- Yes I like brakes and tyres that can loft the rear wheel. My Gixer streetfighter and the Blackbird both do this very easily.
- I detest cellphone talking, latte swilling drivers.
- I never got to test the ZX14 although BK said they could arrange for me to ride the one you had Fish'
- I'll wait a year or two and the choice of bikes that appeal to me in their full spec may be better.
- My dream bike is a VFR1200 ish, with gear driven cams and ABS.
- If I still lived in the UK there WOULD be a ZX14ABS in my garage right now!
- I like trim women.
- I dislike inconsiderate smokers.
- I'm infuriated by dog owners that let their pooch shit on school fields.
Sorry, ranting now and drifting off topic.
Mind you, even this drivel is better than throw away one liners like "Big fucking deal...ABS, a totally useless feature...learn how to brake. Screw ABS. Maybe the Europeans just can't ride".
Oh and BTW, of course it Kawasaki's fault they lost one sale!

I'm confused.... if you want a grand touring bike then get the Concours14 .... if you want sheer power then buy the ZX14... and yes.. you should take the red one for a spin... I've broken it in and it's just sitting there gathering dust...
and no... the ST does NOT compare.. the bike is in a different league...
if you want a comparable to the 14 ride a busa..
I can only assume that the 14 was simply too much bike (or money) for you if you chose an ST. .. very bizarre indeed.
oh well.

Mechanic... for a person who is pretty well 'spoken'... I don't see the logic in your choice.. however... I say, to each his own... Get what you want and ride it like you want. The decision to not get the 14 because of the lack of ABS... (that you have never even tried or experienced) is not really a reason to go to a complete different style and model bike. I did find humor in your "rambling"... that was good... but I didn't really find the humor of yor 71 posts up against the administrator of this web site, calling him out and speaking down to him... especially when he came out speaking camly with you. I don't believe that anyone is trying to say that you should get a zx14 no matter what... I read that they are saying that the fact you seem to be set on ABS seems to be a rather silly requirement for an extremely well made motorcycle with phenominal braking abilities. Again, I am not doubting your decision, not disagreeing with it... I just don't think that you have made much of a case. After all, you were the one who posted your decision and asked people to give their opinion. "go ahead, flame away". I have heard that the ST1300 is a great all around cruising bike... and if that is your plan, then I am sure you will have fun and enjoy it. I don't miss having ABS at this point. It is not because I am a 'better' rider than you, it is because I have had bikes my whole life... and I can't say that the trade off is enough for me to not purchase (or to purchase) a particular bike. If the 14 was only sold with ABS... I would have to ride it before I purchased one to see how it feels. I believe the same is true in the oposite mind set that I would not require ABS unless I rode it and knew what it felt like. Again, enjoy.... but please don't get all martyred by the fact that not everyone agrees with you. PS... nice face... LOL

Enjoy your new ride. I still don't quite see how the ZX14 and the big Honda would appear on the same shopping list as an either/or item.
I would be interested to know how Kawasaki arrive at their marketing decisions too. Why ABS in Europe but not America? Also colours, the UK has got the Black this year which is fine but the other colour is a dark Blue, really uninspirational and boring compared to the Candy Thunder Blue. Maybe the French Police wanted a batch. LOL.

+1 Mechanic,
I wouldn't have minded ABS when I was crossing the finish line at the Texas Mile
When I got home I read on the Maxton/Brock site that alot of their riders problems/crashes happened after the finish line. I assume alot/all of those were trying to stop/braking related.
Texas and I believe Maxton only had 1/4 mile stopping distance.
Texas said they had a secondary road that I never saw or needed.

And for the person who is choosing not to get the bike because it does not have ABS.... he is going to be at Maxton and/or Texas mile needing them??!!! I find that hard to believe. . Not to say that Brock or any people that ride with him would. or wouldn't like the ABS.. I have no idea... but by the context of this particular poster (mechanic), and by the bike he did choose, his concerns were far from trying to stop after completing a record attempting high speed run... or a high 8's 1/4 mile... I think we all agree that Kawasaki should have offered it as an option since ABS is available over seas... but to buy into the fact that because it does not have ABS, (which has not been tested or proven in this Country on the 14) Mechanic then "had" to go with the Honda cruiser??!! Enjoy your riding... everyone!!

Nah, I couldn't hold back. I've got to post again, DOH!
How can you really explain what rings your bell. Fishantlers is certainly right when he uses the word "bizarre", I can't explain why such varied bikes made it onto my shortlist to go and blow a wad of money.
ZX14, ST1300, DL1000, new Triumph Tiger, Connie 14. It's a mystery. Maybe I just needed the satisfaction of some new wheels.
As for coming onto this board flaming - hardly! I like the ZX14 enough that I almost bought one. My gripe is with the Kawasaki decision makers. This particular patch of grass appeared greener over the pond.
This is post 72. How can anyone claim that the other 71 were disrespectful to Fishantlers. The one jibe was light hearted sarcasm.
The cost wasn't a factor in my decision; the ST is considerably more expensive.
Is the ZX14 too much for me? In a way yes. How can I ever do it justice riding it on the street. I have no intention of drag racing & I need to keep my license. However I am a torque junkie, and I like smooth engines (the Blackbird spoils you in that respect). The 14 was close to the perfect bike for me with the one glaring exception. I wouldn't be whining if it was not an option, but I know it exists and I explored how I might get it, and I posted on this board out of frustration; what better place would you think?
I expected flames because this is typical forum etiquette on bike boards it seems.
God help anyone who comes on here claiming that a ZX14 is a POS, out come the snarling Rotweilers.
If my brief experience on this and one other board, and dealers I spoke to at our annual bike show, I've learned that N.America is not ready for ABS.
Are you ready for Diesel cars that are more frugal, perform better with smaller engines, and cut down on greenhouse gas emissions? Over 60% of new cars sold in Europe are Diesels. No I guess not, or they'd be available here wouldn't they.
Am I retarded for responding to a bunch of internet personas - clearly!
Can I help myself - no. Do I care - only insofar as I genuinely think we're missing out.
Do you care - I don't care.
When's it going to stop raining for goodness sake! Sorry folks it's my fault for buying a new bike.

You're funny dude. Debating over the Internet is like the special olympics, no matter who wins the event everyone is still retarded. Hmmmm....comparing a ST1300 ABS to a ZX14 is the same.
Coming on a ZX14 board with the BS is whats so funny.
Enjoy your ST1300 ABS, hopefully Honda threw in some luggage and a complimentary membership to the AARP club.
