Big K just lost a sale
No biggie to them in the great scheme of things, but we both lost out to a small extent.
I looked into the possibility of importing a ZX14ABS from Europe but it was just too much hassle and more than a little risky as no one could tell me definitively whether transport Canada would pass it on arrival.
I also looked at buying the parts off a wrecked bike from a UK breaker, but again, logistically and monetarily it was too high risk.
So I decided Phukit! - and just bought an ST1300 ABS this weekend. Veeery nice bike.
So it doesn't have the power, and sounds like a noisy fridge compressor, but those things aside I'm very happy.
Flame on...

Hmm your post makes it sound like it was Kawasaki's fault that you felt it was logistically complicated and too monetarily risky.. Sounds to me like you just didn't want to risk it. Not "Big K's" fault.

In context, Big K's decision not to make it available here (N.America) lost them at least one unit - probably more.

dunno if it's Kawasaki's fault... you could have simply waited and ordered the Concours.

I didn't apportion blame, merely conveyed my thoughts and the decision I took.
Although If KUSA or KJP or K whoever decided that N.America wasn't ready for a model they currently make, then that decision lost them a sale - plain and simple.
The Connie isn't an option as I was told that the quota for us up here where the Polar bears roam is fully subscribed for 2007 and into '08. That and the fact that I would never buy a first year production model.

Then why would you consider a 14? It's first year production and year 2 is unchanged. Remember that OEMs are pretty much on a 2 year cycle with these bikes... the "1st year" thing really doesnt come into play any more.
As for the decision not to import... Canada you could blame CKM and USA you could blame KMC... note that Canada often gets different models than the US (Case in point... the Versys)...
CKM will gladly charge you more for the same bike you could buy with a 30 minute drive over the border for considerably less....
When you're calling CKM to complain about the lack of the ABS model being available, make sure to thank them (and all the other Canookian OEMs) for charging you a healthy "vig" on everything they sell...
I'm sure they'll tell you they sell "different bikes" ...
yeah... right

sounds like a troll to me
frankly, im glad that you didnt purchase a 14 - one less moron who would never utilize anywhere near the potential this bike has to offer. abs is for pussies anyway.
so what business do you have on a zx14 website anyway? none, so fuck off troll.

Shawnski, I bought the ABS version, not the magic miracle wonderbike. Full marks for stating the obvious!
I presume that this site has enough value that KUSA and KC maybe just monitor it. So it's an easy way of getting one voice in the wilderness across. That's why I'm posting on a ZX14 forum. I genuinely wanted one and looked for feedback in an earlier post - which I got.

Mechanic,
I would have bought the ABS model if offered, I can't say I was also a bit disappointed. I really ride the ZX-14 like it were my car and that added safety would have been nice.
I think I'm just a bit better rider than the average bear and know that my last Hi-side MAY have happened if I had ABS, Cold tires will put you down reguardless of ABS....A motorcycle cop told me it was a Physics thing. He has seen ABS motorcycles go own as well.
Maybe I'm just a risk taker but I'd encourage you to reconsider, or wait until the 08 (I suspect fish has a point about the 2 year cycle)come out. The fact that your looking at the 14 tells me you are a better rider than you give yourself credit for. Just my 2 cents and No I don't work for Kawasaki.

IHATEABS... If i could get this licence plate..
I have it on both my trucks, if I could turn it off, I would !! It works ok in the snow, but thats about it.
I am convinced its only use is for cell phone talkers, who's calls are rudely interruped by driving conditions

BTW .. to NOT buy the 14 because of no abs and pick the bike you did is crazy IMHO... I can only imagine that cost or something else was really the factor as the 14 is easily leaps and bounds over an ST1300 .. .in fact they arent even comparable in any way shape or form...
I have to ask myself... have you ever even turned a corner on a 14?
Seems bizarre to me esp since the 14 has pretty much the best brakes on the market today.
maybe he is trolling.
