Need to get my bike dyno tuned

How much does it cost to get my bike on a dyno? I s there a specific one that is newer or better? I have tha Muzzy header and a commander already installed back fires at times. Thank you for your help.

Price varies by market and to some extent type of dyno used. I would say on average low side $150-high side $250-300. The later DJ250 with tuning link sw which I beleive DJ leases instead of sells contributes to the higher cost if used. With a competent operator prolly will map it the best thorughout the range. DJ250 with tuning link is not an automatic guarantee best mapping, one on a DJ150/200 can get it done too with a knowledgble tuner.

If you have a bike night in your area that is always a good place to ask for recommendations and cost

The important thing is finding someone competent. If the shop does not have it's own dyno and relies on a portable one ask many questions i.e. what the process for tuning is etc... Believe me you occasional backfire will seem like nothing if they do it wrong plus the waste of time and money.

Thank you very much for the info. frank. Is there a bike night in the state of Utah? or I took a look in the search, power commander official sites says there are a couple of places here in Utah , one place is a harley shop, would they even work on my bike or should avoid them all to gether does it matter? thanks once again!

I've found Harley shops to be interested in the 14. After all it is a motor and one of the fastest bikes around. It's important to find someone who can look at the monitor/chart and knows what he's talking about. Watch him dyno another bike then ask him tons of questions.

As for backfiring, we love it... the coolest sound around.

Or skip the dyno - if you can't afford it or can't get to one. I put on a wideband and ran my bike through town, down the highway and into the canyons w/o ever seeing a real problem. I have no flies and a set of slip-ons and did a run w/o the PC and it was fine......swear it was better than the map that was in my PC (since it was tuned w/ stock cans) I left off the PC and have been riding like mad every since......can't keep the front tire on the ground - even pulled it up while leaned over a bit in second :-)

If you have fears of running lean then you can simply load up a map with a small amount of fuel everywhere.....same number in all blocks....and then let the ECU do the rest.


edit.....I have pics and vids of the wideband running in N at various RPMs to show what I mean, but was unable to mount the camera for the riding part....which showed little diff while pulling a load.

Have you tried going to the PowerCommander site and putting in your zip code to find resellers and tuners? I put in 84101 and this is the only entry that came up;

Thank you , I saw that. I thnk there is a difference on how they do it from what I have been told from the Harley Rep. He said he could do the tourqe and the horse power, he would know how to tune he explained. 2 instead 4 cylinders. That is what I was told anyways.

I'd just like to add to what Flyboy said. You won't neccessarily cure the backfire after a dyno' set-up. A lot of us have found that the 14 fitted with a full system exhaust still pops on the over-run as you close the throttle and can produce a flame from the pipe. Opinion varies about whether this is desirable or not. Me? I think it's great.

I have a map you could use that was created by using a wideband setup if you're interested. The bike it was created on has a full muzzy system with no flys, screen removed from back of air filter and muzzy blockoff plates. All my bike has done is no flys and dual D&D slipons and I'm running this map. I have an occational pop, but it's more like a crackle instead of a loud pop. Bike runs very well and very smooth. Give me your email and I can send it to you.

It does make a difference being in a higher altitude correct? It was mapped originally in California, I just moved to Utah so do I need a different kind of map considering the higher altitude? i think I do if I am wrong please correct. In the higher altitude I am running rich....right , just wondering. Thank you all.

You running carbs on the bike :-)

There are 2 pressure sensors on the 14...it knows how much air is going into the motor at all times.....

There is a sensor under the seat that measures ambient air pressure and another on the throttle body that measure pressure going into the motor. The ECU supplies fuel based on these (and other) inputs. You don't need to adjust - don't even really NEED the PC w/ normal mods.

Hmm, I didn't know that. So, does the pc bypass all of this or do they work together?

The PC simply intercepts the ECU fuel command and modifies it based on the map and sends it along...a translator kinda function.
