quote: smokin... you mean steels and fibers? A stock clutch thats never been drag raced should be able to recycle the steels with a brief glass bead. Theres 1/2 the cost savings right there.
The dealer should eat the rings.... otherwise Id be putting a set of JEs in there instead of the stockers....
200.00 is steels and fibers ..I don't know if it been drag raced or not ... But from the burn clutchs i have seem first hand the steels are warped and the fiber is fine ...

J& E will make any piston you want just give them a call..... MTC has lock up and muti stage clutchs for the zx14 ... Schnitz carrys them and i'm sure Muzzy does too...If you have the head off i would send it to Adams or Carpenter and have it ported ....Leave it stock bore and just raise the C/R with some new pistons ...

I went to JE web page they have pistons for the 14 and the compression says it is 13.5.1. Stock Kawasaki says 12.0:1 I wander how much power that would give me?? And would the bike handle it?? Thats the big question

Sure it would handle it ...It will cut bearing life some, you might knock off 5000 miles of the life of the engine ... 12.0.1 to 13.5.1 will gain you about 4% to 5% in power or 8 to 10 HP....Port the head and pick up 8 to 10 hp .........

LOL - just looking at drowland's grasp of the English language (from his typing), I would say this whole scenario may be bullshit...not to mention the conditions the engine supposedly failed in...sounds ridiculous to me...was there any fucking oil in it when this happened, drowland?!?!? LMAO....

I'd take pics of EVERYTHING if it were me. Whether you show them to anyone is up to you, but I'd cover my ass when dealing with Kawasaki---and friggin' dealerships<<<
Tell them you also want the old steels and fibers, and you want to be there when they start pulling your bike apart. CYA.

It could happen just like he said.
I sure had enough problems with #3 on the 12.
Some zx14s are going to blow and someone has to be first.
Still a very nice bike.

robs right, tried to warranty my clutch and its not the dealers fault, its kawi bc the dealer sent in the request to have it done and kawi said that unless something was broke inside the clutch case, there was no warranty.

I called JE Pistons today and they said that the high compression pistons are available and that Muzzys have been running them as well... Around 650 dollars for them and will take a couple of weeks to manufacture them... Since My bike is under warranty still sort of scared to put them in and then it blow up again... And then it would be some serious cash to throw out..

quote: This is the story. It was unseasonally warm so when I got home from work I got on my bike and went to get a hair cut. In town so I wasn't hot rodding the 14 at all at the time.. Road the bike down the road and heard a noise that sounded sort of like a exhaust header leak so I looked down at my headers and I was missing a header spring.. When I got to the barber shop didn't think much of it. When I left I was just cruising down the road and felt a rough rpm feel around 4k. I brought it down a few revs and went back to 4k and felt it again.. Then it started making a ticking sound.. So I decided to pull over and when I started decelerating it got lounder and lounder . Clank Clank Clank.. Now it was loud as hell... So I called the dealer on the side of the road and let him hear it.. He said cut it off.. I threw a rod.. So I towed it home.. He was right it was rod # 3. And yes it had oil. Amsoil.. The dealer asked me all the questions..About me riding it.. Looked for rubber under my tail section checked my oil etc... I have bought some bikes from this dealer ship before.. And the dealer pretty much said that most of the time the manufacture will not pay for blown engines.. The damn thing is that when it blew I wasn't even giving it hell... I have a long history with Kawasaki's since I bought new 1 ZX11D 2 ZX12R 1 ZX10R and now this 14. And I'm not some dumb ass squid that doesn't know how to ride.. The good news is Kawasaki is going to fix my bike under warranty.. The bad news is that the dealer says I need to put all new rings in the bike and replace my clutch while he's in it.. And I have to pay for that. I sort of lost interest in this 14 awhile back and thought about selling it since I haven't been riding it.. But the week before I went for a ride with my friends and caught the bug again and then the damn thing blows up.. Thats my damn luck.. I know I can't be the only one out there.... Fess up fellows I know I'm not the only one.....
Weird!

the average consensus is that 1 point of compression is worth about 3% power so I concur with Smokin sayin 4-5% I do however disagree with picking up 10 hp from porting the head I would say maybe 5-7 at the most but I am probably wrong

Head work with a bigger cam and free flowing exhaust always show a very noticable jump in power in an automotive engine, but a bike might be different, I don't know. I ported out my 400ex head and put a stage one cam in with a 416 kit once. It did run better, but it was probably from the other stuff and not so much the little bit of port work I did.

a few for bore, a few for compression,
a few for headwork, a few for pipe, and a few for cams
will result in a very nice power increase .
The question is how much do you need, and how
much are you willing to pay for it?

I think that the clutch on the 2K was a unique and different problem... you know that too.

Sucks this happened to ya d. May i ask how did you break the bike in? By the book or just go out and ride it hard? What brand and weight oil did ya say you use? Hope this gets fixed. May have to buy the clutch but fight 'em on the rings.

The dealership I bought mine from told me that if my engine blew my warranty would cover it. It might have been a sales pitch to get me to buy the extended 4 year insurance, but I thought since this is a new engine design, I better take precautions.

Engines dont generally "blow" and I believe that no one would receive blanket coverage without some investigation. If the engine was abused or the bike was abused it would be fair to deny a claim IMHO.

naw.. maybe prolonged wheelies... or leaving it on it's side in a parking lot with the engine running... standard stuff.
